Default sorry... lots of ranting (Bosch spark plugs, stealerships...)

So... I inherited a 2000 LS from my brother a little less than two weeks ago:

I start up my car one day to see that my CEL is on. Stopped at Acura of Brookfield to get it checked out. they refused to look at it unless I paid them $45 (1700 miles out of warranty, which is also the same dealership that wanted to charge me $45 to look at my abs light 50 miles out of warranty) I said screw it, went to AutoZone to get the codes checked out: two cylinder misfires, random/multiple cylinder misfire, and ignition misfire. Did some research. Replaced cap and rotor with OEM parts, then NGK 8mm wires with Bosch platinum +4 plugs (best I could get at Advance Auto) put all of those in and the light went away. Brought the car to Wilde Honda for a valve adjustment. Since my brother jacked off in his spare time instead of doing standard maintenance it needed a coolant flush and a 4 wheel brake service as well. not to mention the last oil change interval was 8k miles (I'm already down a quart of oil in the last 1k miles) I can't believe I already have cold piston slap at 52k miles. Anyway...

$421.32 later ($26.18 plugs, $56.68 wires, $25.16 cap, $24.85 rotor, $52.50 sunroof switch (which conveniently died the day after I got the car and came in 4 days after the stealership said it would) and then $235.95 dealership stuff) the car is running beautifully. Start it up yesterday after driving on it for a week and a half: CEL. Back to AutoZone to read the codes. all 4 cylinders misfire, then random/multiple cylinder misfire. I gave up. Back to the dealership since I was assuming it would just be loose bolts on the valves because everything else was brand new. $90 to look at it, and if it was the valves they’d waive it and fix everything free of charge. My dad told me to leave the car there and he’d cover the cost. (he also covered some of the previous stuff because it wasn’t really anything that could have been caused by me) Stopped by today during lunch. Plugs are already covered in carbon. Didn’t know why so he said he’d get back to me. Service Manager called my dad, he ok’d new OEM sparkplugs after being told they were $19.42 a piece. Couldn’t get my car back till I gave them $180.86 out of my pocket (after my dad said he’d cover it and then ok’d $80 for new plugs) Took the Bosch plugs back to Advance Auto. They reimbursed me $26.18 for the plugs, and are helping me file a warranty claim to get Bosch to pay for the $90 diagnostic fee.

Washed my car tonight since I told the dealership they weren’t allowed to touch the paint (they wanted to give me a ‘complimentary’ high pressure wash which would strip my countless layers of polish and wax off). There’s scrapes on my front wheel. A couple of months ago Acura tried to put the stupid car in their car wash and got a bar stuck in between the spokes, then proceeded to rock the car back and forth on it trying to get it out (which they of course said wasn’t their fault even though I say them do it “it’s because the car’s lowered” then don’t put it in the friggin car wash! This dealership also backed his car into another with a tow truck while they were supposed to be changing the brake pads, got a repainted rear bumper out of it though) However, this wheel was in the rear because my brother bent the rim, and it rebalanced, and was told it had to stay in the rear or I’d still have a vibration at low speeds. When Wilde did the BRAKE service (which I was told was just a thorough cleaning) they rotated the wheels without telling me, or asking for my permission. I’ve had a vibration in the front of my car for the last week, couldn’t figure out what was causing it. Now it’s back to the dealership to make them re-rotate my tires back to the way they were, or switch the front and rear tires to the bent wheel stays in the rear.

This car is far more trouble than it’s worth. I’m out $276 personally ($576 overall) and now the car is running fairly decently. I don’t have money, I’m in high school and I’m only allowed to work weekends so I chose to sacrifice my social life in hopes od earning enough money to pay for gas and shocks. Argh… if my brother would have taken car of the car like a normal person it wouldn’t feel like it has over 200k miles of wear on it.

All done ranting. I feel sorry for those that have wasted their time reading this. I should buy you a cup of coffee or something.

ps. Wilde almost neglected to tell me that I only had 4% left on my front brake pads. Anyone know of any decent shops in the Milwaukee/Waukesha, WI area? I’ll be needing shocks soon too because my brother never did that when he lowered it. He doesn’t deserve a lowered CL Type-S.

look on the bright side, you're still ahead of the game with a free car
i wish i had the option of getting an integra back in hs, i had to walk 1.5 miles.
financially it maybe difficult for you to start 'fixing' it up...but maintaining it shouldnt be much of an issue...plus if your parents are willing to buy your bro a new cl type s...im sure they'd also spare a few bucks to help you out never hurts to ask!

a brake job on an integra can be easily done by yourself with the right tools on any given weekend..even for the slightest mechanically inclined person... it's all part of the hobby.

yeah, I love Brad. I get things from him all the time. oh, and were the shocks from King installed for $500, or the shocks and only the shocks for $500? thanks.

EDIT: their service department sucks, but parts and the service I get from Brad is unbelievable

I have heard some bad stuff about AOB, but they have always been very nice to me. I used to take my other car there all the time and they went above and beyond in my experience (i.e. covered stuff well after the warranty, free TL to drive while my car was getting fixed, etc.). Anyways, this is not helping you..........sounds like you should find another shop to do business with - for whatever reason you are not being taken car or over there.........

my rough idle is already coming back a little bit. no CEL yet. I'm almost hoping something goes wrong now because then I'd get my money back from Wilde, still possibly money from Bosch, and Wilde will be left having to fix it (oh come on, you'd have to admit it'd be funny to see the look on their faces when they guaranteed this was the problem and they screwed up) so, who knows. it's getting worse and worse.

do a leakdown test and compression test to see where the motor stands. rough idles are a headache because it can be caused by so many things. good luck

hey, I was talking to someone last night and he reccomended a place called H&H Auto Body or something like that in Sussex. iy's by Quad Graphics on 74. anyone heard anything about them?

oh, and I'd do a compression test, but hoestly I don't know how to do that myself and I still don't have a place to bring it to that I can trust not to rip me off.

Helms book if you dont have one get one...single most helpful thing you can arm yourself with. I believe there are only two acura dealerships in wi. one in crookfield and the other is in the madison area. driven by h&h but couldnt tell you much besides that.

I don't have a Helms, but I ran across a factory service manual for a 94 Integra online. that's been a big help, even though I'm probably not suposed to have it. some things are a little different between the 94-97 and the 98+, but a lot of the stuff in there is the same.

I went back to Wilde today to let the guy know that my car still has a rough idle. he blew me off, and said my idle and timing were perfect (even though the car was vibrating like crazy) I also told him that I had a problem with him rotating the tires because one of my wheels was bent and balanced for the rear. he offered to re-rotate the one side. so if he did that my tread wear would be way off. argh. dealerships **** me off.

do some research and work on your car your self. come on, you can't change your own spark plugs? brakes are easy too, you'll save your self soooo much money.

To be honest, I think your the one to blame. Your blaming a dealership for rotating your tires? Its common practice for them to. The more you bitch and complain the less they will help you.

Is it really that hard to change spark plugs, adjust valves, retrieve a code, rotate wheels????

I just saw the thread on the front page. I assume the post before me dug it up for some weird reason.
