I have an JDM 4.4 ITR tranny and its the best $1225 I have spent!
Note:
The tranny has an LSD along with shorter gear ratios (compared to my GSR tranny) so I can't really comment on having an LSD alone.

lsd isn't worth the extra money in my opinion...just get a shorter geared tranny like a b16 and you'll be golden....lsd is nice but if you can get a b16 tranny for 400 bucks and a type r for 1200 i'd get the b16 anyday...use the extra cash for other mods
If your on a budget as most of us are, i would reccomend using a phantom grip lsd, it only runs about $299.00 and works pretty damn good

The only problem I see getting a LSD is that once you have the tranny out, it will be so tempting to also change the FD, FW, and clutch all together.
Then money would really become an issue at that time.

LSD=best mod on my old civic, most needed mod on my new CRX!!
Once you drive a car with an LSD, you will not know how you were driving/racing without one. It makes a big difference in all performance aspects.

so how bad is the LS tranny really? i have a LS swap in my hatch, and i want to order a jdm b18c soon. im going to keep the LS transmission in it at first cause im gonna use the money from selling the LS motor to get a new tranny. so my question is.... what makes it so bad? is it that HORRIBLE?
An LSD is really the only way to take advantage of all your mods done to your car...How can you fully take advantage of that wicked suspension, those sticky tires, them lightweight wheels, those sick cams, high compression pistons, grabby clutch, all the strut braces, sway bars, and anything else youv'e done to enhance your car's handling and power if you transfer all the power to the wheel that slips?
Open Diffs make no sense whatsoever...If it slips, it gets all the power? WTF? Locker Diffs like the Prodrive Spool is used for Drag Racing ONLY and is not a Limited Slip Differential...
Any true performance car has a Limited Slip Differential...
My Subaru has 2, one is found in the center like all AWD cars and one is in the Rear which gives it a Rear Wheel Bias, just the way it should be...Viscous Style which is not the most durable but gives the best feeling of any style of differential...Thats why its used in all AWD Lamborghinis...

first and second arent THAT bad, but third, geez it takes FOREVER, the gears are way too long.
put it this way, when i run the 1/4 i was at about 6000 RPM in third gear when i finished, third gear in LS tranny SUCK.

Well i've installed about 8 in the last 6 months and have had NO problems with any of them. I would imagine that there was some kind of install error in there somewhere.
The only time I've ever heard of one failing was if it was over powered, they are only good up to 400hp or so.

i've heard some good things, but for the most part, the 'Phantom' part is that you don't know that it's there because it's not doing much 'Gripping', and that it's likely to haunt you when it breaks- then you'll know that it's there. get a used ITR/CTR LSD for a bit more $, or a Quaife if you insist upon low maintenance and relative indestructibility (limited lifetime warranty even for rally-cross; how many companies offer anything remotely close? -'race only; no warranty' is the norm.)
as for the original question, drive in rain or snow with one, if you don't plan on seeing much track use. if those conditions are common for your ride (in this car), it'll give you more reason to consider one.

LSD is amazing. I have a 94 integra ls with intake, exhaust, test pipe, suspension, flywheel/clutch and ran a 15.623 at the track. I put in a 97 jdm itr tranny w/ lsd and it dropped me down to a 15.091. The main reason is the cloer gear ratio but when you launch off the line you can feel the extra grab. Ya railing turns you cant even describe it its strait up amazing. It was sad to see this tranny to go.
