Swap in a little Honda magic....
Fellow Teg owners.... Please Help !!
I am seriously considering the LS Vtec conversion and have done searches for info in the forum, but no one really gives numbers and results that satisfy my need for proper info.
Some shops down here tell me I can do it for $1600-$1800 with a B16 head (parts and labor incl.), but I am not sure if they know exactly what they are doing.... One guy said...yeah...I can do it.... blah blah blah, when i asked him how many he has done...he said 2 !
What do I really need for a HONDA RELIABLE setup as far as the absolute basics are concerned ?
As far as I know, I need:
My B18B1 block (current engine)
B16A head w/intake manifold and T/B
Distributor for that head
ECU from and SI or GS-R or ITR or CTR
GS-R or like oil pump
External oil line
Not including any performance upgrades yet.... is this all I would need to buy to have the complete head swap done ?
I know GS-R or B16 pistons would give me more torque, but....
Would running the LS pistons result in a tremendous loss in HP and torque ?
Should I also upgrade the water pump ?
Is there anything else that MUST be upgraded for the swap ?
If the B16 head is very old, do I NEED to replace the springs and retainers?
What is the typical WHP and most importantly, torque figures for this type of engine? (Honda Tuning showed dyno figures with 170+whp with a basic setup w/conversion and GS-R pistons and nothing else)
Is it worth the $$ ?
Most of the shops I talk to here start out explaining well, but then seem to turn into babbling idiots, so I don't know who to listen to....
Any info (especially from LS/vtec owners) would be greatly appreciated, I am not asking for a wishlist of what I should do, just what are the NECESSARY PARTS for the conversion.... I am trying to research LS Vtec, not turbos (yet) or s/c or NOS.
Thanks in advance !!

or for the ecu you can use a chipped P28 ((single cam VTEC)) just gotta remember that the red line won't be as high as an all vtec motor because the LS motor can only spin as high as about 7200 rpm. i dunno...do some more research...the chipped P28 ecu would save you mucho deniro rather than getting a GSR one!

I have no idea how a SOHC ECU (p28) can operate a DOHC set up, but I will research it...... never heard of that b4.....thanks for the tip....
That is why I am researching this LS/vtec possibility, as an alternative to turbo.... I know a good turbo will cost me around $4500 installed new with intercooler, block guard, and all the functional goodies, minus TT and gauges... T3/4 hybrid and will make insane power on my engine, but if a reliable LS/vtec can be done for considerably less, I would prefer not to spend all of my $$ on Turbo......
Unless you want to donate a turbo w/ piping to me..... then I happily turbo w/o question !

Why not get turbo ?
