Default I NEED SERIOUS HELP: going fast 3rd to 5th = CRUNCH NOISE

WELP I dunno whats the deal. I have a real problem with shifting. I will try to explain.

Okay. Say I am driving normal in 5th on the hwy, then shift to 3rd for power......then I shift back to 5th. CRUNCH!!!!!!!!!!......Why? This is a new problem for me, never happened until I put on the header, cat, exhuast, but I dont think that can affect it.

Every time I go fast in 3rd then sfhit to 5th skipping 4th this happens. I am sure I have the clutch all the way in. Please help me out. I'm becoming paranoid

Serious, what is wrong? Its is scaring me.

sorry, not a flame...

Just use 4th.

Synchros might not have "slowed" down enough to go into 5th.

I would just use 4th. Or you can save up for a sparkly new typer tranny. But seriously, it is probably just synchros wearing.

Your parents were nice to you. I had to learn to drive on stick. They went easy on me and let me take the test in an auto.

When you shift from 3rd to 4th you're only moving one fork in the tranny
When you shift from 4th to 5th you're moving 2 forks in the tranny
The only thing that i can think of is that your 3rd to 4th for goes a bit too far and slightly engauges the 4th synchro
This wont happen when you fully shift into 4th and then out into 5th
I dont think it's anything you should worry about
just dont skip gears
esp 4th
i love 4th
hmmmm......i hope this made sense
but if you look in a helms manual at the tranny it should

Best suggestion is to wait a little longer before you shove the lever into 5th. It works.

Skipping gears is hard on your synchro's (unless you double clutch). The more you do it the more they wear. Since you've done this numerous times your synchro's probably are not in good shape. This is a good time to change your driving habits or say good bye to your synchro's. btw, a Type-R tranny is $1600+ new and about $1000 used but I wouldn't buy a used tranny unless I could examine the insides first.

Previously someone got a new one for like 1200. I forget who it was.

Default Don't skip!

Like others have said, don't skip gears. Your GSR's close ration transmission was built to work sequentially. Sure you can down shift from 5th to 3rd, but don't jump from 3rd to 5th.

yes it bolts right up, I believe you get bigger gears from 2nd to 5th not to mention the LSD. Expect to pay at least $1600 for a new one. $1200 new is very unlikely, unless you work at the dealer and get it at cost or something. I did hear about people getting it cheap from Canada a while back due to the exchange rate so you might wanna look into that.
