Default **Need advice on performance brake pads**

I am looking for front and rear brake pads for my G2 GSR.

Which pads heat up the quickest? Are there any drawbacks about these pads aside from more brake dust? Do they squeal?

I am looking for a street pad not racing pad. I am considering Porterfields and Hawk HPS. Hawk does not make rear pads in Hawk HPS and HP Plus for G2 & G3 GSRs.

Do you guys know of a place that sells pads at a low price? I would really appreciate your knowledgeable advice.

Hawk HP+ as many of the other members will tell you are very good. They do dust, but apparently some say a little more than stock, while some say a lot. Squealing, once again, some say no, some say yes..make sure you put on liberal amounts of anti-squeal goo.
Your rear brakes do very little in terms of actual braking. I suggest that you get Hawks or Porterfields up front, and slap on some AEM pads in the rear. The speedvision integras use stock rear brakes i believe, so this reinforces the fact i just told you.

Contact Carlex (trey), on this board, i got my brakes from him.

The key to Hawks is breaking them in according to their instructions. I also use liberal amounts of Mobil 1 or Red Line synthetic grease on the back of the pads.

HTH.

I can't decide between the Porterfield R4-Ss and Hawk HPS.

Why do the Hawks squeak for some people? Does it still squeak with anti squeak compound applied to the backing plates and shims?

I had the same dilemma but opted for the Porterfield's instead. I will probably replace them with Hawks though when the time comes. Performance wise, they seem comparable to the Porterfield's at a cheaper cost.

As far as squeaking, you should be fine using a generous amount of anti-squeal compound on the back of the shims prior to installation to help reduce or eliminate it.

Integ_GrL, have you driven a car with the Hawk HPS? Do you know from experience that they are better than the Porterfields? They are cheaper but how do you know that they perform the same or better?

No, I don't have personal experience with the Hawks; I am merely making observations based on what people have said about them, and so far, I haven't heard any complaints from those with Hawk or Porterfield pads. I didn't notice that big of a difference in stopping distance after the Porterfields were installed, but that also might be due to the fact that my car doesn't see the track, in that I don't do enough agressive driving to actually reap the benefits of performance pads. On the other hand, just because you have a daily driver doesn't mean you shouldn't have on a good set of brake pads. Track or not, I really doubt you can go wrong with either one. HTH

I just got through breaking in a set of Hawk HPS pads front and Ferrodo pads rear...These Pads for the street are awesome. Before I had Axis all theway around but they suck'd B@ll$ ..and being that Japan has a lot of stop and got traffic got to give them the money wel spent in my Opinion

I've got the Hawks and I've never had squeeling from them.

As mention before you'll do fine with either pad. Although a good pad can made a difference don't expect to see a night and day difference just by changing your pads. If you want shorter stopping distances you'll see much more effect from better tires.
