Default 95 Prelude VSS problems. Did search, only found info on Civics.

On the way to work, I was merging with traffic, got a little churp-gettin on it (wasn't trying to). Then all the sudden I lose my speedo and have no vtec, then the cell spits out onto my dash.
As I am making my way on the freeway, the speedo bounces around from like 5-35 mph, when I was doing like 60???????-then after a few miles it bounces no more>?
WTF.
Do I have a lose connection? Or am I going to have to spend about $110.00 for a new VSS?
Now I did read all the info I found on the civics, Does the same info apply to the prelude for the VSS?
Has any other Lude owners had this happen to them??
I am at work now- I plan to check it all out on lunch. I am sure its a code 17. The swap was just done on my Lude within the last month> H22a JDM. I kept the same tranny, just swap the motor, ecu, etc.... Never had this problem be4.

Note: I did not find any info/threads on PRELUDE VSS.

Well it can either be a lose connection or the actual VSS has come loose. I would first check the second option since the VSS is only held on to the tranny by one bolt. Make sure its tighten down securely and if that then fails then you can always buy the spare one I have here..

It does have a gear so that could have been damaged as well..

ahh the vss strikes agian, well if you "got alittle curp" my guess was that you sent a bit of a shock to the drive train, and there is alittle retaining tab that the bolt ofr the vss goes thru , and that can easily break if you beat on the car. mine broke and i had all the same problems you hd. because once it snaps the tab the vss just pops up and you get little to no reading if anything on the speedo. so check you vss, to see if A you can move the whole unit, or b you wires are lose. i had all the problems you listed. my guess you broke the vss just like me, i had a thread on it.

edit : here you go my problem with some accord info for replacements https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=495499

If you have cruise control try to use it and see if it holds your speed constant.

UPDATE! It seems as though the VSS has came lose, everytime I hit vtec it pops out, So I am going to stay outta vtec the hole way home. I checked that bold and it seemed to be tight yet the unit was lose. Hope the screw isn't fuct I did have a long enough lunch brake to try and fix it. I only had just enough time to trouble shoot

yup the prelude vss is weak, you snaped the retaining part of the vss, you did just what i did. the bolt is tight because it didn't come lose, you just snapped it strait off. it looks pretty mean when you get it all apart. check my post up top.

Before you do anything. It is one bolt but it goes through two peices. Just reattach the clip with the VSS and then retorque the bolt down again. Then test it out..

you can either weld it or get a new unit form he junk yard, if you look in the link i posted above there are many accords that share the smae part number, and that will work for the lude. currently mine is wedged inplace under the peice that broke, very half ***, but good enough till i get one. jus no droppping the clutch at redline. i originally borke mine just as i was pullin on a tsi.

you broke the part where the bolt goes, im guessing, when # 14 goes thru, that where mine snapped

I will try this! I am sure once I have had the time to get into it tonight, I will 4sure notice a broken clip>if that is what happened. and from what eveyone here is saying. It wouldn't be a surpise....
Damn this really sux!
Thanx for everyones help!
you would think sutch a critical part wouldn't be sooo weak!!!!!

So here is the motor the Broke my VSS!!!! Be4 the swap that is!

Yup . Damn Braket broke off clean!!! I just got a chance to check it out again. The Braket is still bolted to the tranny...um but the VSS is not. So the braket broke right @ the Base where it mounts to the unit! I don't abuse my lude, I just like to drive it. So am I not supose to use VTEC >> SORYY I have to call BS . There must be some way I can re-inforce it so it can take the stress.

JB weld.

Or make a sheetmetal bracket to cover and reinforce the bracket and bolt.
