vtec solenoid is located right next to the distributor...usually has a green plug on it. Looks like a mini pop can. Havent heard of anyone making a vtec switch before..dont really know what you mean by a vtec switch.

at low rpms it would probably take away more power than it would give.

just to let you know, adding a vtec switch is really pointless because if you activate it without having a vtec controler V-AFC you will not gain anything, because your causing both lobes on the intake camshalf to open up the 2 valves at the same time. however if you don't have that V-AFC you won't be able to change the fuel and air mappings, cuz the ecu activates vtec and also tells the car to pump more air and more fuel. w/out tricking the ecu that way, activating the vtec system is very pointless.
but you can still do so buy splicing the vtec wire, the green with white stripe on it, and adding a constant 12v attached to a switch and when the switch is turned on it will send current to the silinoid and activate the oil pressure to engage the locking of the rocker arms. peace good luck
-> as for vtec light, i have one currently, i have a 5v hyper bright blue led. i had to use a resistor becasue the led is 5v, i burnt like 3 already w/out realizing it was the voltage. so good luck, i can help you with that also.
vtec siliniod is the miniture pop can like someone said. its right near the distrubotor, on the left side of the motor.

Just use a 12v sidemarker light. two long wires 1 for ground and 1 wire to the vtec solenoid power wire>( green and white ) wire. Just find a decent ground, and have enough wire so you can mount the light behind your dash,or anywhere else.
