Very Cheap Mod for ITR = BMW style interior lighting
Here is my idea, either somebody can beat me to this or you all can just wait until im done to see how it turns out.
My idea= (Lets use some imagination here)
Anybody who has been in a 3series BMW (late model) knows about the orange/red
LED that shines down upon the radio, a/c controls, and shitknob. (Im sure you all see where im going already).
I though it would be cool to mount the same color LED right underneith the little ledge where the hazard / defrost buttons are. You can see where im talking about in the pic below.
Just thought this would add a nice touch to style in the ITR with the orange/red interior lighting; not to mention a little light to illuminate those amazing shifts for your girl-friend (hopefully)
Im sure this mod would cost no more than a dollar or two and maybe a 1/2 hour of time. Please let me know what you all think.
I was just bored and though I would share my little innovation/project for this weekend. Any comments or suggestions would be great!

Yes, I've been considering this project. Very good idea. My Bro has this in his E46 M3. It's just a matter of finding a low output auburn LED and tapping into a power supply. To make things easier it could receive constant power day or night.
I would mount the LED behind the mirror so it has the same affect/angle as the BMW's.

I like it in the dark!
Sounds like a great idea, I'm glad you said amber too and not a blue strobing stunna light!

Yeah, and then let's mount some neon lights in the foot wells and then lets put neon lights under the car. Wow, that would be tight yo!
j/k
anyway, I would want someone to do it and see how it looks first. Might get real old real fast.
Actually,t hat's why I didn't buy a 2003 BMW M3; that light was just too annoying. Oh, and well I couldn't afford one either, that is another small reason.

They have that same type of thing on the tsx also.
Under the radio controls. The blue is nice because its a darker color and not as distracting
(its not as bright as the pic makes it look, the reflection on the screen is from the one in the head liner)

Great idea. I was just in my brothers A4 and it has the same thing, an LED by the sunroof controls illuminating the dash just a little bit.. Looked awesome.

anyway, I have bought the amber light and I will be doing some testing tonight. I got it from radioshack (dont goto one in the mall, they wont have it, must be a standalone store)
I am going to use a 12volt powersupply and various inline-resistors to see what is the right intensity of illumination. I may hook up a potentiometer with a voltage/amp detector to see what amount of resistance (ohms) I will use.
I am going to make it very dim so it's bareley noticable unless you were to look directly down at where the light will be shedding. Also I plan on inseting it pretty far into the panel (possibly with spacers) so you dont see the actual bulb light, only the reflection off of the instruments below.
will keep yall posted

Good idea! The boooring ITR interior needs a touch of "class" anyway
Make sure to post some pics when your done (and the parts so we can steal your idea shamelessly!!!!!)

Tap into the wire that turns on (+) feed when the lights are turned on, Closest one and easiest especially if you have an aftermarket radio would be the Radio Dimmer wire. Its not used with most aftermarket radios and is easy to get to. If memory serves me right it should be an orange wire on Metra and other Stereo Harness adapters.

Trust me... if goes on my car it's not rice. And even if something WAS rice it becomes DERICEFIED on my vehicle.
The led in the BMW's is so low output you don't even know it exists until you put your hand in the general proximity. I'll prove all you who don't believe WRONG!

how's the show circuit going?
how's the show circuit going?
Sad that people dont like light up interiors anymore.
I say go for it, just dont do it all out in the open of the interior. Make sure the Light is hidden
