Default GM Syncromesh Users - About to try it.

I just bought 3 qts of this stuff. HELLA EXPENSIVE. Cost me almost $40

Anyways, I got the regular stuff and not the modified. Should I go to another dealer and buy the modified or will it be just as good if I use the regular?

I was planning on 1 bottle of regular and 1 bottle of modified but I only have 3 bottles of regular. Go ahead?

Let me know how it works. Next tranny fluid change I'm gonna be using it, most likely the friction modified one though.

What's the difference between the 'regular' and the 'modified' SynchroMash??

Oops, I said synchromash, not mesh.

Just changed my tranny fluid (still honda mtf), and every time i change it, it feels so much better. i ought to change it more often.

Looking forward to a subjective review on the differences with this fluid, if any....

Well, there are many threads about it if you search Syncromesh.

It supposedly is way superior to Honda MTF. Smoother shifting and sometimes even "fixs" trannies that grind. When I say fix, I mean that it doesn't grind where it used to grind.

I used to change honda MTF every 15k or so. It always came out just like new.

Come on, I've been searching for harness, seat, suspension, etc, info all day.

Chris - who knows what sychromash does, but didn't know there was two types... regular and modified....

I believe the modified stuff is supposed to be better. That is why I am wondering if I should go out and buy some modified or just use this regular stuff.

Two weekends ago, I drove at MAM with honda mtf, and I got the usual 3rd gear grind. Last weekend, I drove at Heartland Park, having just changed to the regular GM syncrocrap the day before, and I didn't get ANY 3rd gear grindage over the weekend. Good stuff!

The regular stuff worked for me too. I got a nasty 2-3rd gear grind at any rpm. After synchromesh it went away. It took about a week of driving for all the grinding to go away in my experience.

get your synchromesh from http://www.gmpartsdirect.com next time.

I can't get that particular one here in Canada (Part#12345349) or I just haven't been looking hard enough.

I called two places and gave them that part number and they said no such thing on their computer

B2, still no grind since my last post the other day, and I drove the car hard all weekend. Its still kinda rough downshifting to 3rd, but not NEARLY as bad and NO GRINDING yet. I paid $9/quart as well and still think its the best tranny fluid Ive had in the car WITHOUT A DOUBT. Considering how well its worked for me so far, I dont even care how much I paid for it.

As far as the Modified goes, Ive heard some people run just the Modified stuff, but havent heard any comparisons as if one is better than the other. The regular works for me so Im sticking to it. If you try the Modified, let us know how it feels.

I'll be doing the regular fluid this week since it seems like everyone has just as good results with the regular.

I put the syncrhomesh friction modified in mine. So far so good. Shifts are smooth as butta!

Not sure if its 100% friction modified. When i went to the dealer to pick it up, i asked if there was a different kind of synchromesh. I made the same mistake as you and i picked up 3 quarts of the regular syncrhomesh. I found the part number through honda-tech and i went to pick up the friction modified stuff. Apparently the dealer doesn't really use that stuff anymore because it was covered in dust when i got mine. He said all the corvettes use the regular synchromesh and that hes never seen the friction modified version. The price different is pretty similar, so maybe they both offer great performance? I say, if you have the time to return it and get the friction modified stuff, do that instead. But if you're in a rush and need it installed today, give the regular stuff a try.

I was planning on doing it today but didn't have the time. Probably weds. If I got time weds, I'll try to get the friction modified then.

You said you are using ONLY the fricition modified?

you CAN use only the friction modified stuff if you like. Not sure what the specific purpose or difference is between the two. The couple of GM guys Ive talked didnt seem to know. :shrugs:

B2- I drove about 200 miles on GM regular before tracking the car.
Chris - Mr. Socko took the weekend off and I put the AEM back on the car. Thanks for reminding me, though, I need to track down another air filter for my shorty intake.

Yeah, i put in 2 quarts of friction modified stuff and the tranny was full. Didn't need all 3 quarters.

I bought it with the Part number I saw here on h-t via my local Opel (GM) dealer in Austria. I have 6 bottles at home and I will fill up the tranny after the winter with this stuff. I have bought the modified one.
