Ports make people happy. What freq do you plan on tuning to? What size box? You don't have a sub sonic filter with that amp, which could be a problem.

What is your goal with this system ?

You want it musical, or you want to compete in spl comps?

Port the box. Xtant's hex subs have an awesome suspension on them. You can use them in a ported box without sacrificing clean, tight bass response. I would get ahold of your local dealer or go to Xtants website and contact their tech support or download the specs for the ported box. Hope this helps.

PORT IT!

Did anyone expect me to say anything else

I don't have any specs on the xtant subs, but I would use the recommendation of the manufacturer to start. Once your skills at box modeling, and building get better then you can experiment.

Box building sucks. I couldn't cut a straight line if my life depended on it.

Whoa, wait up before you decide to port your box.

What kind of music do you listen to?

Porting it will make one frequency sound VERY loud. Youll get much better SPL, but youll really sacrifice SQ.

I would never port a box....

Agreed, I just haven't heard any real good setups with ported boxes, the ones i have heard didnt sound all that impressive, but thats IMO, and just from my experiences.

Ported is easier to mess up and mistune. You have not heard a good ported box yet. Come to Cali, and I can show you a few

haha, I used to work at a stereo shop, and we had one of the top 12 installers in the country...... but now that I think about it, I don't know if he made the boxes yet.

I just don't see how a ported enclosure (tuned to exadgerate a specific frequency) can be good in terms of SPL. Wouldn't you want all the frequencies at the same volume, for accurate reproduction fo sound.

I could be wrong

same with sealed boxes. smaller box will get you a nasty peak, bigger box will get you a flatter response.

tune the port lower if you're concerned about sound quality. big difference from 25hz to 40hz.

port port port. port>sealed<me

port the box.

come to cali and i can show u my idmax in 2 pieces. lol.

As Dan Wiggins, I think, put it. Sub response is like a pile of beans.

You have a finite number of beans. You can stack them at one place, and get tons of spl, or you can tune it flat to the mid 20's and get good vibrations

You can make a ported subs frequency response as flat as a sealed's, but the ported with have lower extension, but higher roll off after tuning. This allows you to have a flatter response in the areas that we can hear.

For an sq system either can work. Most sealed car subs have high f3's. This can compliment the cars transfer function and make a flat response. A ported enclosure may be flat to the mid 20's easily. This can cause more subbass, below 40, but at this point bass is more of a tactile sensation. For spl you would tune it above 40, and it will get a peak dependant upon sub characteristics and the size of the box.

If it is a competition system, it will be eq'ed and none of this will matter anyway

PS. I have converted a few sealed fanatics.

Send me your broken idmax. I seem to be collecting super subs lately. My xxx is collecting dust in the corner.

I'll trade you my 15A, which is equally as dusty.

port it.
i had a 10w7 (before it got stolen)..
vteg made a ported enclosure for me.
no loss in SQ (cuz i didn't have to use bass boost..sealed enclosure was wussy)
and man it sounded like i had 2 of them in there.
no exaggeration.
it hit a whole lot more notes too.
propery built ported enclosure rules.
