Does Short Shifter really help?
I was very close just now of buying a Short Shifter that throws 30% for my Integra GS-R. But before buying one, I want to make sure.
Does it really help 1/4 miles and 1/60 times? Are they reliable? I've heard of them breaking on some people, but I've also been told that the adjustables are the one's that break.
Anyone with any info on Short Shifters, please post some of your knowledge. Thanks!

I love my short shifter. throws are nice and short, also accurate. One thing though, you need to make sure you get used to it for a while before you drive hard with it. If you don't, you will end up messing up and grinding the gears. Just be careful.
Oh yeah, get a steel one also. Don't get one of those lame aluminum ones. The aluminum ones have been known to break, but i haven't heard of a steel one breaking.
If you know how to shift REALLY well, you don't really need one... if shifting is not your forte, then it can reduce your 1/4 time.... very little, but it will help... personally, I can shift faster than most with my stock shifter vs. others with a short shifter, but I am buying one anyways !!
Note... a short shifter is difficult to drive with, acuras already have a very short throw... and reducing that by as much as 50% is gonna feel mucho wierd ! kinda like a video game... so be prepared.
And yes, cheeper brand shorts have been known to break or become disfigured, so go with a known name brand if you can.....and adjustables suck...
However... it'll give ya a nice, quick shift, especially under hard driving...get it !
X2 gives Short Shifters :

I LOVE my shortshifter. When I first put it on, I wasn't used to it at all. Now I'm so used to it that I want something even SHORTER (though that's not possible). Driving other people's cars feels real awkward with a longer shift. It will help. Apply the same speed of shifts to the shortshifter and you'll obviously shift faster than the stock shifter. Shifting into 5th you really need to get used to...easy to mis-shift into 3rd.
As I have said before, one of my best mods to date.

HA, You don't know long shifts.... my car was being re painted for the last two weeks and I have been driving my g/f's old celica..... damn.... I had time to take a swig of my slurpee which shifting from first to second.... When I got me teg back, it felt like someone put a short throw in the car..... I was loving the acura shifter ! Felt like the shortest throw ever......
Now I've readjusted and I was a shorter throw....

You know what I did?
I snagged a Levoc trigger **** and slid it all the way down so the top of the **** is at the tip of the shifter, and tightened the screws around the base of the shifter, Feel MUCH more accurate and DEFINITELY crisper from shifting at the base of the shifter...
Call it mickey mouse, but I love it.

I have a neuspeed SS and i like it a lot. I could live without one though but you should at least put the prothane or ES shifter bushing with or without a SS. The neuspeed SS comes with it's own bushings.
let me tell you a little secret. most of the shifters (not all) for integra that specify 30% reduction in throw...well that figure doesn't apply to the gsr (the non-adjustable ones). when i had my z.speed put in i was a tiny bit disappointed that it wasn't more dramatic. i still love it, though! i recommend momo super anatomic **** (not short) and energy suspension shift bushing kit ($10.69 from summit or $18 at a shop).
but...this is not a magic bullet that will shave a tenth or two off your ETs (but it might help a little...even if it's psychological...and maybe you will run quicker)

Short shifters, IMO, are all about comfort. The lower lever position puts your arm in a more neutral position, and the shorter throws allows you to shift with less effort.
I disagree that aluminum short shifters routinely break. Just don't overtighten the shift linkage and you'll be fine. Overtorquing the shift linkage puts extra stress on the lever. As with any mod, the quality of your installation really matters. I've had a generic aluminum short shifter in my daily driven car for over a year now with no problems. So if pricey Neuspeed and C's short shifters are out of your budget, a handsome aluminum version can be had for well under $50.
