Autotensioner Help
I took my 99 to a shop to have the timing belt changed out. When I got it back there was a ton of belt whine coming from under the timing belt cover. I gave the shop a call today and mentioned that I thought the belt tension was too tight. They claimed that the autotensioner is not adjustable and therefore the timing belt tension is not adjustable.
I thought that you could adjust the tension on the belt, is this the case or am I incorrect?
Thanks,
-Jeff

Welcome to the prelude autotensioner. It sucks.
Why did you have the belt changed out on a 99?
Probably should have changed the tensioner out too. And I always thought the whine from a belt happened because it was to loose.

I bought the car used and it had 65,000 on it, figured I would get it done. The tensioner was done as well, I just dont think its on there correctly. So am I right in thinking that it can be adjusted?
i dont believe it can be adjusted...it's a hydraulic autotensioner, so the shop is right in a way saying it can't be adjusted...
HOWEVER there is a procedure to follow to properly install it and make sure it can do its job properly - if they didnt do that, odds are it could throw the timing off.
not sure how you want to go about it, but if it is making noise, it is quite possible they didnt do the job properly.
