Lets talk about brakes!
Just recently moved to the mtns. and I wanted to know what combination of front and rear brakes people have... like how good they work and so forth.. Ive found that buying the 16 $ brake pads for my car wear out very quick.. lmk

I have autozone rotors and axxis ultimate brake pads in the front, and crx si rear disc's and stock pads in the rear.
Big improvement when I changed the front pads and all the rotors, I think it was mostly the pads.
Start with upgraded pads and then go from there... I hate
with a passion... people who get big brake upgrades, and run stock pads
....
get axxis ultimates or something better... with just the front pads, I can lock up my 14inch azenis at any time
, thats if I try to lock them up, otherwise they are a great street pad

I would do the same, I have carbotech pads and they are awesome. Once they were installed I inmediately felt and inprovement. Quick lockup, better pedal feel and no fade.
Of course get SS lines and good brake fluid
Hope that helps!!

ive got 89 integra brakes on my 87 CRX Si, i wanted to upgrade my calipers to GSR's(if possible), SS lines, wagner thermo quite pads, crossdrilled rotors, and some good fluid (not sure which kind, taking suggestions) i didnt really want a big brake kit, dont think its really nessesary.
those are my ideas, not sure if they are good but its all in thought...

i have stock rotors and drums, with wagner shoes in the back. front pads are carbotech panther+. stainless lines, EX master cylinder, and super ATE blue.
they are actually pep boys rotors, i go thrugh a set every 5-10k. i am EXTREMLY hard on brakes and the pads are taking all i can through at htem until the rotors discolor, then the pads are no good, and have to be sanded down and new rotors purchased. im obout to upgrade the front to the EX rotors, but the car is down right now so im not sweatin it
oh ya for a sane driv er i would reccoemdn the anther+ very nice pad and will stop u from 130-0 without fade!

my boy and i did an eg yeah the car will stop but your only using your front breaks you don't have enough break fluid to push the rear calipers that's why you have to change the poportion valve so you can get enough fluid to push the calipers try it you will feel the diff.
How hard is it to do SS lines? I have '88 DX and I'm going to be redoing the entire brake system (new rotors, pads, etc) and while I'm at it I want to swap to SS lines for the brakes but since I've never done it before I have no idea. And rotor wise should I look for cross drilled, slotted, or just get standard ones? never did know the big difference between the different types of rotors.
Biggest part of your brakes is your tires...
If you can lock up your tires with your current braking system, better brakes are not goin to help much, unless your heating them up (track racing)
IMHO
steel braided lines are very easy to put in..

Awesome thanks a ton! yeah my current brakes suck. I can push them all the way down and they won't lock up at all. The pedals a little spongy so I'm going to swap out all the lines for SS lines and replace the rotors and pads which are both pretty bad. if that doesn't fix things I'll look further into it but I have a feeling that should straighten things out pretty good.

Correct.
If you want more braking power, upgrade tires, pads, and fluid.
Also, fancy rotors do nothing other than crack sooner and wear down pads more quickly. And I guess they "look cool" too.
Stick with blank rotors
