Default B16 swap worth it?

I have a friend willing to sell me a b16 with 28000 miles on it for like $2000, i was just wondering what you all think of this, is it worth it for the VTEC? I got killed by an Si before so i know its faster but i just donno if i can get enough for my motor when i sell it to justify the swap. Just looking for opinions. Thanks

that motor wont have enough torque for your car so in a sense you'll be slower

i have a B16A2 block with a GSR head in my 99 GSR and honestly it doesnt feel much different on the "Butt-dyno" than any other GSR i have driven in...

The weight between a Civic SI and a GSR is negligible, i think its like 80 pounds or something, considering some of that is in the bigger GSR block the weights are even closer...take your spare out of the GSR and you are right there...

sure you lose torque but i mean there honda isnt exactly known for their torque...if you want a rev-happy machine that will indeed be quicker than your stock LS as long as you like driving to the grocery store at around 4-5k...if im wrong with any of this, someone please feel free to correct me...

Better plan on getting a B16/ITR tranny to match that B16 else you will be sloooow

If someone would send me the intermediate shaft I need to complete the swap, I could tell you exactly how a b16 in a 96 teg feels.

My jdm b16 has the same power output as my old USDM B18c motor, and only about 5-8lbs less torque. Mated to the proper tranny, the b16 will be a great motor. Plus, it reves so much better than any other Honda motor.

It's a good choice for an RS/LS owner who wants to upgrade to cost effective VTEC.

* that is overpriced for a b16 swap IMO, what all is he including?
* all that work and you will make less torque
* you would be faster than agsr going ls vtec
* ls vtec would be cheaper than the 2k + labor/time to do the swap.
* You could piece together a turbo kit for the same price as swap
* average ls swap goes for around 1k

With all that in the air it looks like this.

1)Spend 2k on swap= your car has vtec, no torque, and your still stuck in the mid to high 15's.
2) Spend about 1k do a nice ls vtec conversion= youll be faster than a gsr, you shoudl be able to pull high 14's with bolt ons
3) spend about $2-2,500 piece together a turbo kit= mid to high 13's, making over 200+ whp

I vote for #3

$2000 for a motor swap replace a working motor... i think not...

that's a lot of money and you can do much more with it.

I can't believe what people are saying.

I'm a proud owner of a b16 engine, very nice engine btw.
But b16 isn't the best choice for that chasis, that heavy teg chasis needs more torque.

I seen people regreting swaping b16s into their g2s. I don't know about 3rd gens.

wait 2000$ holy crap thats alot. I blew my last GSR motor and bought a JDM b16 long block for 500$ used my tranny and ecu and it works perfectly. I had to raise the vtec x over but thats it. I know the b16 is zero torque but I had to keep the car running while I build the new b18 motor. And the b16 head is worth 400$ itself so im only looseing 100$ or less to have the b16 in there for the time being.

I just finished putting a b16a longblock in my LS with LS tranny (LS tranny ). The car is faster than with the b18b but the LS tranny is really killing acceleration. 3rd gear goes to 110mph. Once I get some better gear ratios it should move pretty good. But overally im happy with the b16, it has a REALLY nice 30-90 right now with the LS tranny.

torque, torque, torque, which honda motor produces enough torque anyways? mated with the b16 tranny, the b16 should be a little faster. go for it
