Default Burning oil.. I did the ton of searchs but I need answers.

I have the same problem. I smell burning oil and heat smoke I have oil
leaking from the head somewhere. I just recently replace oil pan.
It almost 3k miles on the oil.
I check dipstick, there no oil on the dipstick! I added in 4 quarts of mobil 10w30. The engine was idling smoother and better. My engine is at 83,000 mileages. I see there oil spreading all over the long block. It look messy. There seem like leaks around oil return line. I am going to have it
check tomorrow. I think I need new head gasket, new rings, new pistons rings? I am worried so I have it check tomorrow. Anyone know what cause this? Thanks for reading my post.

I would rule out the obvious first.

-Check for leaks

Jumping into the engine internals (valve seals/piston rings) should only be done if a leakdown and compression test (respectively) show low numbers.

Are you blowing out any smoke? Taking it to redline alot? I would just do a compression test just to see if it's the internals then try finding the leak thats causing all the mess.

Check the cam seal. It is a small black plug on the passenger side of the valve cover. Also, when you replaced the oil pan, did you buy a new gasket for it, that could be your problem. Hope that helps some.

I too am getting smoke (burning oil of course) at 6800rpms and on. My compression check yielded good results.

Is it possible that our problem could lie within the valvetrain? Simply because it doesn't happen till things start getting real fast. Maybe valve seals/seats?

mine uses a little oil, and i've been trying to track it for a while (Mobil 1 10/30, ~1qt btw. 4k changes.) The cam seals don't leak, but a few other things did, now fixed and leaking slightly less:

Rear main seal (easy fix while doing T-belt, which you should do right away anyway)
Oil Pan bolts (apparently, B18C's like mine vibrate them loose...Loctite is good for you)
Valve cover gasket (obvious, i know, but still)
Oil pan washer (it's a crush washer, has to be replaced every time...I use a fiber one)
Oil filter gasket (also silly, I know, but if you've got one stuck on the motor, it'll leak)

The other posts here are right...do a compression test, especially if the oil level has gotten down to the point where you had to add FOUR QUARTS of oil. Please let me know what you find out...

Check the Oil Sending Unit. It's on the back side of the block. I had one that leaked on my last teg. It would leak and then burn the oil off on the back side of the block, creating smoke, and at times, a lot of smoke. It finally got really bad and I was loosing way too much oil. It's a pretty cheap part to replace...it's above the filter I believe. Just my $.02 though...

Now, I found out what the problem with burning oil. Now I have no job, I can't afford a replacement head gasket on the engine. The cause of the burning oil, leaking from my engine, I have a bad head gasket, dist shaft seal, clean out the engine. Will have to recheck for possible head gasket after 1 to 2 weeks after the repair is done. It cost 200 dollars. I am so screwed and broke. My car is going to sit at home. I smell so much burning oil and white smoke.

It is possible to just torque down the head bolts a little tighter.. Couldn't hurt.

couldn't hurt unless you overtorque one...

Overtorque/retorque, like maybe 5ft-lb over spec ~67 ft-lbs. Trust me, it's almost impossible to break the head off those bolts or break the threads. You'll break your sockets before that happens.

Finally, I figure enought money to fix. I got it repair yestersday on Tuesday. 4 hours of repair, 200 dollars down in the drain. Headgasket was the main problem to leaks of oil all over my engine.

As soon it was replaced. They put engine cleaner to clean off the oil all over the engine. I went to pick it up and I noticed the engine is cold. I warmed it up and thanks every mechanics for excellent job.

I drove and I noticed white smokes. Great, I turned back and asked him why it give off white smoke. He said that the engine cleaner was cleaned with hot water on the engine bay, there some waters down somewhere in the engine when it get hot as engine warmed up, the water streamed up dry.

I keep smelling nasty smoke but now it doent do it because it all gone. At night after hard runs, I can smell engine cleaner chemical on the engine and a little smoke. I assume it goes away. I have to come back 2 weeks later to check for any leak on the headgasket.

So much for today. Hope this help everyone about burning oil smoke.
