Default Rear wiper

What all does it take to put the rear wiper on a base hatch. I know the following: Cut a hole in the hatch for the motor arm to pass through, install the motor inside the rear hatch door (I am assuming the wiring is there) attach necessary wires, install a DX or Si combination switch on the column to control the rear wiper. Please correct any info that is incorrect and I have the following questions: How difficult would it be to install the rear washer on the hatch door (running the fluid line and whatnot), If the combination switch from a DX (DX civics have intermitent front wipers) would I then have the intermittent function or would I have to replace the front wiper motor? I know it would be easier to install a rear hatch from a DX onto the vehicle, but it is difficult to find one the same color and I don't have a lot of money for this. This is just an on the side project using extra money, not a prime objective. I would like to keep it below 200 if possible. Please, any info would help. Thanks.

Given $$$ most any porject can be done. If you can find the parts at a salvage yard and are sure the hatch has the brackets and that the wiring harness will work it will be easier to do. As to the column switches-you will have to do a swap along with the wiring updates if it is not there. The washer is not a really big issue-except you will have to run lines from the tank/motor unit to the squirter, etc.
Can this be done for your budget amount of $200-I have some reservation because some of the parts that you will want to replace (rubber items) will have a combined cost of over $30. The actual squirter piece sells for over $9. Hope this gives you something to work with-good luck.

Well I know that all 88-91 civics are wired for tachometers (even though they might not have them), rear speakers, rear cargo light, cigarette lighter, etc. So I am assuming that all are pre-wired for int wipers. Also, are the wires for the rear wiper pre-installed?

Why not go to a junkyard and purchase a complete rear hatch...would save you a hell of a headache.

I have a few of the signal arms you need...but I'd recommend picking em up along with the hatch.

Heh, I could have sold you my entire rear wiper assembly and motor, but I ripped the wiper off my car and took out my motor.

It is just difficult to find Hondas in junkyards at all and even when you do, it is difficult to find one that matches my paint code (B-56M-4). I can't afford a re-paint cause as I said this is a side project only. Is the STD hatch pre-wired for a rear wiper? What about the int front wipers? Rear washer (If a wipered hatch was installed, would I have to add the fluid line?)

Well you can find out very easily yourself if it is prewired just take off the back hatch plastic pieces and look to see if the wires are there.

As for adding the rear wiper squirter nozzle well you would have to run the hose obviously but you are also going to have to get a new windshield washer fluid resovoir since yours will only have one motor on it and you will have to get one with 2 to run the rear one. Well that and plus drill the hole for the squirter itself which wont be an easy task cause it isnt round. I got rid of mine thing barely worked as it is so I put a Fuba antenna back there instead. I could see doing the rear wiper but dont think its worth the trouble for the rear squirter but thats just my opinion.

As for the intermintent wipers, I have heard that the only thing that determines the intermintent is like a relay of some sort but basically its suppose to be that large grey fuse/relay type thing that is on the back of the underdash fuse box I guess all you have to do is unplug yours and plug in one that had the intermitent controls well that and different wiper controls which you would need for the rear wiper anyway.

Oh and just so you know I have the windshield wiper fluid resovoir with the rear motor and I also have a hatch with a rear wiper as well. If you wanted I could take out everything from the hatch for you.
