Default Would a JDM 4.7 Final Drive be a good investment for my Car?

Ive got a 92 hatch with a gsr motor. currently making 182 but plan to be over 200 in 6 months or less. I just bought a b16 hydro tranny for it, bc the gsr tranny I had was going to ****, and was way way too long. I know most people recommend it, and i can have it installed for basically nothing, but is it going to be worth it for my setup? Its under $400 and I cant think of anything else that would benefit me more than that for the same price. Thanks for any input

If you're going to be drag racing freqently, a LSD will help you much more than a higher FD.

The final drive will do alot more for you than the lsd! I'd do it, it's one of the best performance mods you can get for the money!

i know what a great investment would be drag ***, buy another tranny or a race clutch cause when u dump a stock honda clutch at 5k on slicks it wont hold up very long, but its just a rumor

it will limit your highway driving a bit or at least increase your rpm / mph level but its worth it in the end

sounds good, hwy driving isnt that important. ordered the 4.7 final drive, si tranny, and a gsr diff. Ill do a write up on how much better it feels than my current stock gsr tranny

Just out of curiosity will you have to shift one more time with the 4.7 fd?

casey, you might wanna look at getting a better slick...

M&H have some really nice 13" slicks. the 15" wheels sucks for anything making decent power. you need a good sidewall.

but either way, i was playing with a car that had the ATS 4.9billion or whatever...and it feels mean as hell...and it did ok for racing..but it sucked on the street. you cruise at such a high rpm. and the b16 is so damned short it's going to be worse. the one i drove a had a gsr tranny

but, either way...good luck and i hope to see you bust into 12's sometime soon

i have 22x8x13 MH slicks i just have been using the 20x8x14 mts because of how long the gsr tranny is and my higher than stock redline. Im definitly going to have to use them now, for the larger diameter and better traction. THanks, i am hoping for a 12.9 really soon

wow this thread is old well i love the tranny. I took it back to the same 1/8 that the best i could pull was an 8.65 at 80 on 20" slicks with the gsr tranny. I ran on 22" slicks with the si tranny/4.785 final drive. I pulled 8.39 more than once and trapped well over 83mph and trapped 83.6mph once. Obviously the tranny is awesome for a motor making all the power up top. On the hwy, the rpms are a bit higher but i dont mind, and driving around town is a matter of putting it in 5th gear and thats it
