88-89 to 90-91 bumper q
i never really got a clear answer for this question...but I'm putting a 90-91 bumper on to my 89 CRX...do i need the 90-91 rebar? What else do I need?
(besides the lights)
thanks!!

thanks!!
I know that the bumper supports have different part numbers, but the honda dealer said there wasn't a noticable difference and that they should be interchangable.
I put a 91 bumper on my 89 hatch, I didn't have to do anything different really. At the bottom the bolt holes didn't quite line up, all I did was redrill the holes in the new bumper and it was a done deal. Fit perfectly

see..... you can't always trust one source, ive been told you CANT swap a crx bumper on a hatch, it wont fit, but if you say it does i wanna try it, any one can confirm this
this is ur lucky day, i just did it this afternoon. installed a 91 bumper on my 88.
1. remove bumper turn signal lights(both sides), loosen 2 bolts each side.
2. remove four screws(2 on each side) on bumper that are attached to fender.
3. pull the front bumper gently with the bumper support, do the same thing with your car and it should bolt right up.

well were not all on the same page here i assume, i am asking for a crx bumper on a hatch im guessing im just gonna have to switch to crx fenders too, anything else ill need?
From what I understand the only noticeable difference in the 88-89 and 90-91 CRX bumpers is the front bumper lights. The wings west RS kit is actually made for the 90-91 CRX but fits the 88-89 provided that you replace the front bumper lights. I don't see any reason why you couldn't swap the 90-91 CRX bumper onto your 88-89. Just change the bumper lights and you're good to go.

Okay, a little clarification (I didn't read all the replies, so this *MAY* have already been answered). I just stripped a dead '89 Civic Si hatchback, so I've had a good look at a few things (got a '91 CRX DX as well).
Civic Hatchbacks and CRXs *DO NOT* - REPEAT - *DO NOT* share a front end. The only piece that is interchangeable as far as the front end sheetmetal goes is the hood. The bumper on the hatchback uses a separate metal "valance panel" above the bumper cover, and the CRX doesn't. The CRX just has a one-piece bumper cover with more plastic where the metal valance panel would be on the Civic. The fenders are different to accomodate this valance panel on the hatchback. Also, the corner lights are shaped differently. Underneath, though, the Civic and CRX bumpers and bumper supports look to be the same.
You *should* be able to put an '88-'89 CRX bumper cover on a '90-'91 CRX, or vice-versa, but you're going to have to do some extra work to get Civic stuff on a CRX or CRX stuff on a Civic. You'd be flat amazed at how little the cars really share, aside from engines, transmissions, and suspensions!
The *only* issue I can think of with the CRX bumpers is that the '88-'89s use a wider rubstrip on the body than the '90-'91s, and this might be carried over to the molding of the bumper cover. I say "might be" because I haven't had a chance to compare an '88 and '91 CRX bumper lately. So you shouldn't have any trouble mounting the '91 bumper to your '89 CRX, but it might not *look* quite right.
I'm not sure why Honda decided to make so many things different between the Civic and CRX, but they did. Hell, even the front mudguards off the '89 Civic won't go on my '91 CRX! For their own reasons, in '88 Honda made the CRX front body panels different from the Civics' - then they changed them all again in two years! I've noticed the same thing with my '91 Accord Wagon - it uses a different front bumper cover than the '90-'91 4-door or Coupe, and *those* are different than the '92-'93 models.
Frustrating, ain't it?
