axle spindle nut removal
took this pic cuz i thought i was clever heheh.. any ways these spindle nuts have been a real bitch in the past for me cuz i don't have air tools. so i thought i'd post the best way i have found to get the job done.
for those that don't know whats going on here..i put a screw driver in the rotor to stop it from spinning and the i put my breaker bar on the nut and jacked the mother till it turned.
i have also heard of people putting the bar on the nut and then moving the car so the bar hits the ground and turns the nut that way. i haven't tried that cuz i already had the wheel off.
just thought i'd share.
one more thing.. u should be careful when doing this..

If its on tight than it might lift the damn car off the jackstand and then if it slips it would drop the car down. Horrible idea.
Leave the wheels on, put the 32mm socket on with a breaker bar, big pole over the breaker bar, have someone stand on the brakes, push like bastard. And it should go. But thats was before I had air tools.
If its still hard take the wheel up spray the nut with PB Blaster and heat it up. See if that helps.

To get the axle out of the hub, hit it once real hard with a 20 lb sledge. do not put anything over the end of it. One or two hit should get it out and won't flare it, putting something over the end just dampens the blow.

I also think that way seems a little sloppy. My non-airtool method goes like this: 32mm socket/ rachet with a nice 3 foot steel pipe slid over, PB blaster soakdown, and just yank on it. If that doesnt do the trick, than position the pipe a little above horizontal to the ground, and stand on it and hop till' she breaks free. Always works for me.

But what if your car fell off the jackstands and onto the ground. You would feel like a big dumbass. And it is very possible that could happen by doing that. Especially with rusted axle nuts.

i like this way because it takes almost zero effort... i tried the bouncing thing with the pipe and it wouldn't break.. i weigh about 200 too.... the jack went up the nut snapped.. oh well works for me...

I never really had any problems with my axle nuts the only time I ever had a problem is when I took off the wheels and had the thing in the air on jack stands and what I ended up doing is putting a board on the rear bumper to the wall of the garage to keep the car from moving. Well on that one I broke the 1/2" drive and my chin smashed into the lip where the fender use to be slit it open pretty nice but then again i wasnt using a breaker bar and I was just pushing down hard as hell on the wrnech learned my lesson real quick grabbed a different ratchet and stood on it...lol

That's ok. My stock axles nuts on my Hatch didn't want to come off. I broke a freakin heavy duty tork bar while standing on it trying to break it free. I ended up just cutting them right off and having a nice day.
