fuel pump access door in a civic/crx ?
I've been told you have to drop the tank to swap fuel pumps in a civic/CRX, so I'm thinking... Why not just get my air tools out and make a door of sorts right above the fuel pump thingy on the gas tank ?
Cutting wheel a square out, then add a some hinges to the square and bolts on the other side and make a little fuel pump door !!
Dropping th tank is a major PITA !! My friends 5.0 mustang was a BIG PITA, a civic can't be that much easier..
My stock 3/s pump supports 300hp in my stealth from the factory, I'm thinking its a nuff for my turbo civic...
What do you guys think about the access door ?

I have done a fuel pump, and it was not hard, but it was time consuming. If you could find the approproate spot for the door, it would be A LOT easier. But the door would need to be a big size for the reason of some of the hoses that are attached to the fuel pump that you must take off. Good idea though. IF you can do it and you are goin to be back there a lot, i say go for it, but if you are goin to just put in the new pump and leave it alone, then just do it how it is.

I have the air tools right at my car, I bet it would take 1/2 the time to MAKE a door gimic vs dropping a heavy *** tank that has to be lowered and lifted with a jack...
I guess you should see my AIR TOOLS, HEHE.. They'd make short work of civic metal...
I may try to run duel stock pumps, if that isn't working ouit, then I'll swap my Stealth TT ( which came with fuel pump access ) into it. IF that isn't enough, I'll slap a walbro 190 in it..
1 stock pump runs all the time, the other only comes on via a hobbs presure switch when the boost comes on. That way, no richness down low, but good flow up top..

Why don't you just drop the tank, put in a Walbro 255, and be done with it. It really isn't that much of a PITA. Like it was mentioned above, you would need to cut a relatively large "door" in the floor panel. The fuel pump comes out of the tank at an angle, plus the hoses going into it makes it a little hard to pull it out without having some space to work with. I've changed the fuel pump in my CRX twice, and while I don't like doing it, it's not worth trying to make an access door.
Walbro 255 is too big for a boosted Sohc motor, maybe a built B running a lot of boost could need a 255lph, but not a single cam..
Either way, walbro = $100, 2 stock pumps = $00, 1 320hp mistu fuel pump = $00

I've got a question, What will you be using to cut the metal? If its a grinder or something that may cause a spark, common sense would tell you it might not be a good idea to go cutting that near the fuel tank. I've done it a couple of times, just drop the tank and get a walbro 190LPH, works fine and on a few 4th generation civics, i've seen a drain plug on the tank so you can drain it before you remove it.

good point, but that post about the gas tank having a fuel drain on it kinda hit me hard !!! My car needs a gas change anyway b/c the gas is prob. stale/bad and no gas would make a big difference in weight !!
I HIGHLY DOUBT the sparks for a cutting wheel would iginite a sealed gas tank.. Not to say its impossible..
