I have the same problem In first and no matter how soft I try to shift in third it always grinds. is it me syncros and is it expensive to fix.

 

Try going into neutral first, letting the rpms drop to idle and then slowly pushing it into gear, then jab the gas to rev it up and then let the clutch out. Thats what i have to do to avoid my 5th gear grind.

My 90 accord was doing this too and yes i believe it was the syncros. I ended up swaping in a new tranny and new clutch. I think it's cheaper than getting the syncros fixed....correct me if i'm wrong.

and it would be less exspensive to buy a used tranny considering rebuild kits are almost $300

 

labor for rebuild is a lot more than $300 also....synchros aren't something people enjoy doing.....used would easily be the best route
