Allright, so I got the bad news a while back that my motor mounts were shot. But they told me that it was actually where the rear mount goes into the tranny was stripped and walled out. So, since i needed to fix the mounts anyway I ordered a set of Prothane motor mount inserts and a shift stabilizer bushing. I've got a short shifter on the way. I'm gonna be getting a new tranny in the next couple of weeks (mine grinds 2nd, 4th and reverse anyway, besides the stripped out mount threads).

Anyway... basically, I'm looking to make the whole setup drive way nicer. I've been considering buying some Redline Synthetic tranny fluid, but don't know anyone who has used it and haven't really heard that much about the stuff, except for what I read in a magazine a while back about how it makes the tranny run smoother etc (not in an ad, it was an actual article).

So, have any of you used this Redline stuff? You think that the above items that i've got coming will make much of a difference?

This will be about the last big order (i got some Brembo/EBC brakes coming too) I'm gonna place for my car for a while... I'm putting the project on hold and getting my digital video suite going (G4, 3CCD Panasonic, Final Cut 4) so I'd like to not be dissapointed with my car for the next few months.

I used it on My si tranny... My tranny shifts smooth and doesnt grind at all but it was like that before I used it too... My friend used it in his s1/j1 and it still grinds a little... His was bad though...

 

its great, i used to not be able to get back into first gear unless i came to a full stop, and then clutched out and clutched back in.

i was using honda MTF at that time, and i switched up to redline tranny fluid, and now i can get into first at like 10 mph, its GREAT!

 

I wouldn't use it if I were you...

Sure it may feel pretty good while shifting, but your synchros are gonna be dead in a few thousand miles. With our tranny's, only use either regular motor oil (10-40 mostly) or Honda MTF. Up to you if you want to lose another tranny in a year or two.

BTW: The polyurethane mounts are great, especially the shift stabilizer bushings! I have both the motor mount inserts, and the shift kit... Very nice.

 

I will never put red line oil in my trans, it wears your tranny down faster then normal.

 

Redline blows (at least on my s1 tranny). Actually both Honda MTF and redline didn't perform as I hoped. My gears slipped out a lot.

Now it's Valvoline 10w 40 !! It's awesome, no more grinds even when I've been driving for a whole day in hot weather, and no more popping out of gears.

Even the honda dealerships use regular motor oil - but they use some cheap *** 5w 30 and under hot temp and long driving my car still grinded a bit in 3rd. I also had my release bearing reoplaced and that helped too...

 

someone was talking about this GM SYNCHRO stuff, does anyone have a link to this? I forgot where I saw it

 

GM Synchromesh is supposed to be very good.

 

apparently theres 2 tyles of the gm stuff. im not sure which ur supposed to get, but make sure u do get the right one.

 

ever heard of KIS? how about KISS (keep it stock suckah!!) factory honda is the way to go

 

If u gonna go for synmesh, get the Friction modified i believe it' called...the more expensive one

 

I used to use redline and it got rid of my 3rd gear grind for a while. Then I tried synchromesh, and my grind is back with a vengence. I'm still waiting for it to break in. If it doesn't break in in a month im gonna switch back to redline.
