My 99 Accord 4 cyl has a four speed trans. I am pretty sure it is not an overdrive - it runs at 2,500 rpm in fourth at 70 mph . My son has an 89 4 cyl that definitely has 4th gear as an overdrive - there even is a circle around the D on the console. If it is not an overdrive why did Honda design it this way?

 

ok. yes. your tranny has overdrive. listen for it. its like the half shift after it reaches 4th gear... get out on the highway.. you'll hear it.

yeah it has overdrive honda just switched the style shifters that they use to encourage you to drive in overdrive all the time sence it has a more advance transmission that can supossedly sence when to go into overdrive and when not to

 

i have the same car it runs @ the same rpm's at 70mph .

 

When the overdrive engages will I see a decrease in the RPM? At what speed does it change to OD?

 

Check the gear ratios in your Helms. Both 3rd and 4th are overdriven. It also has a lock-up converter that operates under cruise conditions.
