Default Turbo d16 build UP ADVICE NEEDED (EXPERTS ONLY PLEASE)

Hi everyone. I am looking for advice on things I should do for my upcoming turbo D16Z6 motor. Please find below the parts list I have put together and make comments. I have gone through as many posts as I could find on the Topic. I NOW NEED FEEDBACK ON MY OWN SETUP. Please take into account my objectives when answering.

My Setup:

D16Z6 Block
STR BlockGuard (JB welded in only, and will be deck plate honed for straightness.
AEM Hyper 2 Rods
75mm Wiseco Forged custom pistons – Est compression 9.4-9.5/1
Total seal 1.2,1.5, 2.8mm rings (Thicker than stock)
Hondata 2b (Will upgrage to S200B datalog soon)
DSM 450 CC injectors
D16Z6 head – Stage 2/3 port polish. Stock sized valves, stock cam, stock springs, stock manifold, stock TB, ARP STUDS, Honda D16z6 HG sprayed with copper spray.
Home made manifold tubular (1.25-1.5”)
Forced Performance TD05H 18G turbo with hahn racecraft 10CM exhaust housing (internal wastegate) 2.5” Hahn O2 housing eliminator
8”*22**3” Spearco Race intercooler Core
2.5” IC piping (Home made mandrel bent

Goals: Daily driven (Mostly highway). Street Legal (Must pass NY emissions) Would like more passing power… Don’t street race but like to show more expensive cars I can stick with them, and also embarrass ricers (any car with neon or a big wing without a powerful motor to back it up). I want my car look stock except for ITR conversion/rsx wheels (Looking for cheap, discreet, and light 15” 5 Lug wheels!). Possibly AutoX once in a while. Test it out on the drag strip once or twice to see how fast it is only.

Questions I am looking for ideas on: How much HP is this setup capable of RELIABLY. (Car will be well maintained, with Mobil 1 oil only, but I don’t want to constantly change parts around.)

Issues I am still debating and REALLY NEED ADVICE ON:
- Sleeving: I need to know FROM SOMEONE WITH EXPERIENCE. How many PSI stock sleeves/block guard JBwelded in will handle daily with no problems or premature stress failure on pump 92 Octane gas (I’ve heard between 12-16PSI). How much Horsepower will stock sleeves support (Looking to tune hondata to AF of 12.5/13:1 when in boost.)
- Crank Micropolish? How much is it?
- ACL bearings? Yes or No?
- Tranny: 94 DX or 94 SI? LSD or no LSD?
- Exhaust: How much HP is 2.5” good for? I am a bit worried about clearance issues with 3” piping. I do not want rattling! Will 3” actually piping help

With the aforementioned setup, please give me advice as to how much hp I should realistically expect. Please also give me weak spots I should look for and fix in the setup above. Please tell me what the weak links are! The motor is still apart and I have been amassing parts for 1.5 years now. I have almost 2600$ Invested so far (and a lot of time), and do not want to spend more than is necessary to get it running (plus tuning). I will be building the engine myself.

Please shoot me advice or comments so that I can get my project finished. I have read tons on the subject and now I want to have informed, educated, and constructive comments on what are the things I should do to satisfy my objectives. THANK YOU VERY MUCH FOR YOUR TIME! (I figure that if you’ve read this much you know what you are doing.) ;-)
Geoff

I would personally run a Y8 headgasket. It is a little thinner. Giving you a littlle bit higher compression. JB weld will not cut the mustard. If under 300 Hp don't worry about the blockgaurd. I'd look into Benson sleeves.

Get the crank micropolished and the whole bottom rotating assembly balanced.

Default Re: Suggestions

Hi all. Thanks for the replies so far. I chose JB weld because I didn't want to heat stress the block with welding. The temperature and tensile strength ratings are sufficient, as it is submerged in coolant and braced against the sleeves and the block. The STR blockguard was chosen because it has large coolant passages to the head.
With ragards to the thinner Y8 headgasket, the pistons I have are already 9.48 a Y8 Headgasket would yeild 9.75 which may be a bit hard to tune and unforgiving if I get shitty gas.
With regards to bensons sleeves... Roughly how much do they cost? I heave heard 800-900 and that sometimes they sink. Please give me realistic boost/hp numbers on stock sleeves...
Thanks

Dont waste your time with block guards, they dont do much if you arent detonating. The d sleeves will hold the power you want to make.

Hi again to those that have answered. Please no more comments on the JB welded blockguard. I've read them all already!. If they can use adhesives to hold machine gun receiver parts together, I'm sure that they can hold a blockguard in place...

Boosted Hybrid - do you still do street wideband hondata tuning? The motor should be ready for tuning by... January??? (I don't have that much time to work on it, but want to do as much as possible on it myself...

use the si tranny, unless sohc motors are pretty cheap, but if you simply want piece of mind have it re-sleeved, it's like insurance! stock (honda brearing will usually work fine! if it is just a street use car i personally would not pay the $800 to resleeve it imo! a good tune job will do the job! 2.5 piping will be fine! your car is not a crazy drag beast! keep us posted on the end result, by the way i have a set up like yours so i would like to know!

A JBwelded blockguard....... wow.

Ditch the blockguard and tune the car properly, the stock sleeves should have no problem holding over 300whp so long as the cyl. pressures are in check.

I m running D16Z6 a 400hp with stock sleeves and stock head gasket, no problem. compression 8.5. Planing for 500 hp with stock sleeves and they will hold if engine is tuned right.

OEM rings would be better. 3" exhaust will clear. Si tranny all the way.

And I don't care about dyno numbers, how fast does it ran ?

Good advice, I'll be staying on stock sleeves. I'm looking for about 300 HP.

I can't use stock rings, the rings my wisecos use are thicker...

Much props man!!!

I was Hoping to make that ,much HP @ 1BAR but my pipes kept blowing off @ 10 PSI so I just left it there out of frustration.

10lbs 230WHP @ 5500 RPMs (this is when my pipes would let go)

I'll just keep telling myself I could be making 300 at the wheels with 5 more PSI & 2500rpms.

I still don't understand why people think that the D sleeves are gonna fail at 300HP.

Am I the only one who thinks that turbo is a little big for a DD car thats not driven hard? Wouldn't you get pretty bad lag with the 10cm housing being that he rarely goes over 5K rpm and only shooting for 300hp?
Oh well. This is similar to my current build so keep updating this often, I'm interested in hearing/seeing more.

I think estewar03 lives in a rural area.
Had to wait 10 years for ocean to carry his message in a bottle to the interwebs.
