Default Help, Need Advice on Timing Belt

I had my timing belt changed by a local shop Friday. Today when I started th car I heard a high pitched whining sound coming from under the timing belt cover. I plan on taking it back to the shop that did the work and demmanding that they fix it, I was just wondering if you guys had any advice on what this could be?

It does not change with the RPM's the engine is running at, it does get louder the higher the car is reved. The auto tensioner was replaced as well, and I know they replaced it because I had them give me the old parts, but I was thinking this could still be the problem. Any ideas so I could try to point them in the right direction would be great.

sounds like thats what it is.

P.S. if you have to point your mechanic in the right direction then you need to find a new mechanic.

yourself maybe...

Yea, I realize that. I just did not want to tackle doing the timing belt this weekend at my apartment where I have no tools at all. Guess I have learned my lesson. Hopefully they will be able to get it fixed tomorrow, we will see.

it's easy to screw up a timing belt change... most likely that's what happened and the hard part will be getting the mechanic to fess up. if he does, hopefully he has the skill and decency to fix it

probaly isn't your timing belt. If it is then your gonna have some problems. It's probaly the belts running your a/c, altenator or your power steering pump. The loud noise you are hearing are those belts just not gripping onto your crack pully, or the pumps themselves. I hope thats what your problem is.

Edit: THis happened to me after I changed my timing belt on my legend. It's easy to misjudge how tight to make the belts.

Good luck
