you place it as close to the turbo as possible on your downpipe but to where they can still place the sensor without a problem...

Wrong and wrong again.

You must place it far enough away from the turbo so that it is not heated by the exhaust heat. Wideband sensors use their own heating circuitry, which needs to be
precisely controlled to get an acurage reading. Best place on a street car is a few inches before the cat.

ill add some fuel to teh fire and say you are wrong, why?

well i have a 2001 VW that come with OEM wideband and they come right in teh MANIFOLD, now that my car is turboed and i have an innovate wideband which usesteh SAME EXACT OEM VW sensor, i run the bung about 4" out the turbo, so before the cat, not that far, thus, the wideband CAN handle manifold heat

I've always placed mine in the stock GSR location which is just before the cat in the "B" pipe.

Works great for my tuning needs.

Approximately in the stock location would be good enough.

If you read the bosch technical manual for the LSU4 sensor that comes in your VW, you will see that it is recommended to place the sensor far enough away so that it is not directly influenced by exhaust heat. Also the exhaust temperatures in an NA car are comparible to exhaust temps turbo cars may see.

Also, check out the techedge page under the "wideband" tab. Read the "Wideband sensor positioning" section. Here is a quote:

No, i am not wrong. Do more research.

I wouldn't place it 4" from the turbo outlet. I'd place it before the cat essentially, or roughly 18-24" from the outlet.

I'm no expert, but i know the wideband sensors they stick in your tailpipe at dynos are pretty accurate, and thsoe are way far from teh outliet.
