Default shifter notchiness

when im driving normally i dont notice it very much, but when im reving high and shifting quickly i get some resistance when going from 1st to 2nd. its as if theres an edge that the shifter is getting caught up on instead of smoothly sliding down the 2nd. sometimes it causes me to totally miss the gear(no grinding) and when it would normally be in gear... instead i get on the gas and it just revs up in neutral.

would getting a shortshift adapter help that? supposedly shortening the throw increases the accuracy. i did a search on "shifting" and i found comments about the syncros being off. i hope its not that, i just had this tranny put in and i just got my car back two days ago. is that something that can be fixed or do i need a new tranny?

Maybe what you're feeling is the synchro doing it's job? When the synchro wears out it lets you grind.

Maybe they didn't put the right fluid in there, or maybe there's not enough in there.

i asked today, and i was told that its due to it being a cable tranny. its kind of not allowing me to powershift. but i guess as long as it doesnt grind, meaning the syncros are good, guess ill be ok with that.

If you feel that solid notch, that's a synchro problem. Alot of B series transmissions have that problem after a few hard grinds.

And what are you speaking about 'powershifting'? I hope you don't mean not using the clutch. Because that is how it is referred to in the motorcycle world. ALWAYS use a clutch or else you'll rape your tranny.

The short shifter will make it worse, GUARANTEED. Don't go that route.

Right now at this point, I would expiriment with some different fluid. Try GM synchromesh friction modified. That usually clears up alot of the notchiness.
