Did I F*uck anything up?
I had just gotten into my car and i was pretty pissed off. It wasnt warm yet so i dont think vtec was engaging but I was in first and i gunned it. I couldnt see the tach but im almost positive i didnt take it past redline but I had a huge jolt back. It felt like a split second loss of power. It happened so fast I dont really know what happened. Is there a fuel cut off or could I have fucked something up? I really dont think I took it past redline. I instantly pushed in the clutch.
Everything seems to be okay now with the exception of my engine sounds like its idling louder. But that could just be me hearing things because I am always worried something is wrong with my engine after I dogg it out
I have a 99 base
thanks for your help

ive done that once one time i was pretty mad and just left and i floored it and when shifted into 2nd the car kinda stalled ,and the ATTS light came on so i made the first left and turned off the car and turn it back on and the ATTS light never stayed back on so my car is fine

VTEC does not engage when the motor is cold
whne VTEC does not engage, you have a rev limiter of 6500 RPM
you should not be revving a cold engine

Nah, you haven't f**ked anything up! I've done this a couple of times (not proud of it - just not paying attention when burning off dweebs with big ideas an' lil cars).
What you've done is hit the rev limiter. This is a built-in safety feature - loads of manufacturers do it. Some are electronic (sensors) and some are mechanical (counter-weights).
If you 'think' your ride sounds louder, you 'may' have hurt the exhaust in some small way. Might only be that you've caused a small gap in one of the flanges (especially how you gunned it from cold-doh). Hope this helps.
PS you live in Midlothian, Virginia? Ha, I used to live in Midlothian, Scotland!

Thanks for all your help guys. The car is fine
I knew VTEC doesnt engage when the car is not fully warmed up. I didnt realize the car was cold when i took off.
What I didnt know is that there is a 6500 rpm rev limiter when vtec is not engaging. This is what happened
thanks alot
