Default Misshift symptoms

I'm not really going to go into details, but I think I either shifted from 3rd to 2nd and over-revved or missed 4th and hit the limiter in neutral tonight. All I know is that I was driving and attempted to shift to 4th but something didn't feel right and I may have just hit the gas in neutral of mis-shifted, but I'm not really sure since all I did was quickly push the clutch back in and go to fourth, don't really remember where the stick was.

Anyways, what are the signs of an engine that has been mis-shifted?

I have no CEL, the idle is like normal, the engine makes no strange noises, and I feel no significant loss in power. Is there any way to tell for sure?

you probably have nothing wrong at all...there are many people who have done the same thing...on a stock limiter nothing should really happen...worst case i think would be bent valves...but i doubt anything is wrong

Yeah...I mean...no CEL, no ticking from valves from what I could hear from outside the car at idle as well as inside the car, and hell, the temp gauge didn't budge. Most people that mis-shift can tell right away and usually the car will die, then start up with a CEL. This is really dumb anyways since I doubt I even mis-shifted. Knowing me, I probably missed 4th and revved in neutral, second gear is just too far away. Doesn't really matter, I am hoping to get a new engine in the car around fall and as far as trying to sell a 95 D16...I think it may be more trouble than it's worth. Am I wrong?

Valve tick, rough idle...I know those are two signs of bent valves.

Hey i miss shifted last week going from 3rd to to 4th but accidently hit 2nd. Car had a stock ecu but that didnt stop the engine from over revving when shifting to a lower gear. Right when i heard the rpm climb fast i pushed in the clutch but it was too late. The car had a rough idle and there was no ticking sound at all. It sounds as if the car was backfiring repeatedly. Soon it turns out that i bent 2 exhaust valves. Good luck.

Like I said, I really doubt I mis-shifted. If I did, no damage was done...but really, I think I just missed 4th and floored it in neutral...

Some aftermarket ecu programs have raised rev limiters or none at all. Can be very dangerous if you do not have a capable valvetrain.
