Is it legal to swap a JDM engine into my car that I daily drive???
I am purchasing a JDM gsr engine swap in a month and was curious if this is legal. Do I have to register this with the DMV or my insurance company? I dont want to get a ticket or fine for something dumb that I didn't know I had to do when swapping a new engine in my car.
Try calling the your states DMV.
Or reading your state statutes. This is a very gray area of our laws.
It all depends on what state you live in.
I'm preety sure it is illegal in tough air pollution states like Calif. or NY.
But it isn't in NJ. Yet.

as long as your car is 95 or OLDER you wont have a problem here in AZ. did emissions a few times with my b16/coupe never had a problem. (except when the idiot amost jumped it off the rollers. told him its a 6 puck clutch...moron...)

it's legal in california, just make sure you have the same year or newer engine, ecu, same emissions like the usdm equal, and keep the swap clean. each smog refs have their own version of what passes and what doesn't, it all depends on the smog refs.

What would you do to make your JDM motor to US specs? I heard it wouldn't pass the visual inspection? I don't see why it would be illegal though if it passes smog.
