Default THIS SUCKS...miss shifted my LS today

Here is the story for those who would like to have pity for me...

About Noon today on the 14 fwy headed north, I got into a race with an accord LXi(ugly!), I dropped into 3rd and had just passed him when my tach hit 7K(LS limit) and I slammed it into 4th... well actually 2nd!!! (STUPID STUPID STUPID ME!!!). For those of you reading this who have driven an LS... the tach peaks out at 8500... The needle was at LEAST a G past that.(I looked right at it when I popped out the clutch.

All I know is that it sounded like a straight header at full throttle, with a dash of grinding metal. I immediately pulled over and noticed that my cam seal JUST started to leak, and there is a very faint NEW knocking sound coming from the #1 cyl. (NEW because I hadnt ever had any sound from there before now).

It runs fine... same feel and power all the way to red. No excessive smoke or CEL. No oil in the coolant.

Ill get a compression test soon, and change my oil even though its only been 2K. Any comments are welcomed, but please be easy on the torch because I got a "65 in a 50" on the way home also!!! Damn cops always hidin' out...

Peace... Jimmy

Oh yeah... and a 15" in the hatch (for the old folks )

Please tell me the ticket was before the mis-shift

Compression test, and don't friggin take it to redline anymore. If something is wrong then you're just F'ing it up even worse. Hopefully there wasn't piston contact, but if so, you would be experiencing more "suggestions".

the REV LIMITER only stops the cumbustion process from overrevving the block, but when your wheels and tranny are forcing it... nothing is going to limit anything!!!

Well.. we all caught that one pretty quick!!!

OH yeah... the ticket was about 2 hours after my mistake

you probably floated the valves, and unlucky you, one probably touched the piston...

Actually my fastest was a 15.5 at LACR(with the 17"s), not 18's. Probably not anymore though...

And with the 15" in the back...

OK, OK, Ill shut up now.

I'm not trying to make you sound stupid, but how do you mis-shift from 3rd to 4th? Its straight down from one gear to the other. It doesn't take more than the flick of the wrist.

Damn man that sucks. I was down in Diego this weekend and one of my friends' friends has a 92-95 hatch with GSR motor in it, R cams and runnin Mugen program. Guess he was at about 90 in 5th and went to drop to 4th and oops, in 2nd it went. That thing sounded horrible at idle after that. Looks like sum new valves for him as well.

I think when the guy referred to the 18 second car, he was talking about the accord you raced. Anyways, I feel your pain, but look on the bright side - it might be an opportunity to build your motor up "bigger and better" as they say... lol... or just with LS/VTEC

You may have done some serious damage to your head. Your camshafts may have bent, which could cause that knocking sound.

There's a kid around my area who was racing his LS. He was about to redline in 2nd, so, of course, he shifted to get into 3rd. But, he didn't shift into 3rd. He shifted into 1st!!! OUCH!! His motor is junk now. Needs to be rebuilt.

What do your friends have that they might want to race?

no, that is just WRONG. The b18a valve springs are soft as hell, not to mention almost NO valve reliefs. A knocking sound is different from ticking valves. At the least a couple valves are bent. It could be worse. In any case, compression test, them off with the head and find out for sure. I bad case of valve float is this (note b18a pistons):
