Tranny Swap
Ok. I'm in the process of attempting to do a tranny swap on my 88 Crx Si. The problem is I have no clue how to do it. Haha. So if anyone could give me some help i'd appreciate it. I need to know how to get off the 2nd part of the linkage. Not the part held with a bolt but the other part. Also how many bolts do I have to take off to get the tranny apart from the engine. Also do I have to remove the axels before dropping the tranny or can I drop it & pull the axels out then? So if anyone could please help answer a few of these questions i'd greatly appreciate it. Also I can be reach on AIM - CrAzYtOwN69PiMp or Yahoo - killr_dude_7. So please help me if you have the time. Thanks.
well for one you should really have a shop manual to do this if you have never done it before. you do need to pull the axles and to get the linkage out. theres a pin you need to tap out with a punch. be careful doing it so you don't damage it. do a search if you can find more details
No cash on hand otherwise I'd have a manual. The reason I'm swapping the tranny right now is because I needed to sell the car & the highest offer the guy wanted it driveable. So that's what I'm doing. Thanks for the replys. I'm going to have to take out that pin either way to put the linkage on the new tranny. Thanks again. I appreciate it. Oh ya. What size is the bolt to get the axels out? I don't have alot of tools either. I'm a very prepared person can't you tell? Haha. Thanks though.

32mm for the main axle nut , I assume thats what you're refering to....

i just finished a trans swap. when i get home, ill give u the exact punch size ull need to get that pin out. u also may need to heat it. but the best idea is to unbolt the linkage at the shifter. u can beat on the pin alot easier once the trans is out of the car. here are a few other tips
-drain the trans fluid. makes life alot easier getting the trans out.
-get the car as high as u can. i think u need about 16" from the ground to the bottom of the trans in order for it to clear.
-brace the engine with a jack and some wood under the oil pan. theres only one engine mount, so when u pull all the trans mounts....u get the idea
-there are 5(?) if i remember correctly bolts holding the trans to the engine. one of which is facing the opposite direction from the rest
-dont forget to unplug the spedo cable (on the back of the trans) as well as the reverse light wires (green and yellow, right up front)
if u have questions, u can e-mail me or im me on aohell(noriceef). ill be on once i get home from work @ about 10.30
