What are some good smooth sounding 6.5 Component Speakers?
I currently have JL Audio TR650 Components in the front and I am very dissapointed in them. I think they sound like absolute ****. I have the highs turned up all the way and I still can't even hear them. And when there is a song that I can, the highs are too tinny(sp?). I have 2 JL Audio amps powering them up as well. A 500/1 for the subs and a 350/4 for the speakers. I also have the JL Audio TR series for the rear and 2 10 inch W3v2's subs. Everything sucks except for the amps and subs. I used to have Infinity Kappas in my previous car and they sounded awesome. Should I go w/ a different brand or stick w/ JL Audio and try the VR series?

Which series are good? Access? Polyglass? I've never heard them before, but only heard good things about them.
I use the polykevglar(165k3) series, which is the second best, the utopia series is the bomb diggity, but i didnt feel like paying damn near a grand for a 3 way kit, now they are about 700 for the utopia 3way (165w3)
that tinny sound u speak of, r u saying its like a metal kind of sound? if so its because the tweeter is made our of metal. if u want a more smooth sounding try fabric tweeters. i have silk tweeters which sound nice and smooth.

Smooth sounding is subjective, and everyone has opinions to how smooth sounding sound, but I think I understand what your getting at.
Since your turning up the treble, the TRs are NOT for you and neither are the VRs. The generally, soft dome tweeters don't have as much high frequency extension as metal dome and most metal domes sound too bright, harsh or make your ears fatigue because of placement and tuning. You can always fix these characteristics by changing placement/location and tuning the system is the key. The XR650CSi are a great overall sounding speaker. The crossover has a lot of tuning capability (see all those jumpers?) which can make them sound the way you want them to. I highly suggest getting a set of XRs. Killer midbass, detailed tweeter without sounding harsh or bright and excellent midbass.
I think you will be happy with them. I know so many people with XRs in their cars.
If you have your system properly set up, all processing (loudness/mediaxpander/powerful/rock, bass/treble) settings should be off. the only thing you should be adjusting is the subbass level. The XRs are a great starting point to build an excellent sounding system.

I should keep the loudness off? Really? I've always had the loudness on in every stereo system I've had. I always thought it sounded better with it on.

Loudness boosts treble and bass in the areas that are most pleasing to the human ear. Here is the problem...if you use the loudness button you are adding to the sound of the recording instead of trying to reproduce the recording with as little change as possible. See this is all getting into the hardcore SQ info that not everyone is going for. Everyone is going to have a different taiste when it comes to there music so some will like more bass at 150hz and some will want more bass at 120hz it is all up to the listener.
Lets say this...try to tune your system with the loudness off to try and get the sound as natural as possible then if you still like the loudness then turn it on!

Also, would you pick the Infinity Kappa Perfect 6.1 6 1/2 Components or the Focal Polyglass series 6 1/2 components? I can't decide between these 2. They are both about in the same price range.
Listen to them yourself before you buy or chances are you'll be dissapointed. There is no "best" speakers, it's all personal opinion, everyone likes something different in speakers. Also installation is everything. If you do a better install on your exsisting speakers you might like what you hear and that'll save you hella money. But if you want my opinion, I love my HD CDT's. You're asking for smooth speakers, and by that i hope you mean that the components have a relatively flat response curve. With that being said, that would rule out MB Quarts, their tweeters being too bright. The components with the closest to flat response (especially off axis) would be the Adire Koda 6.1 Components. They're 350, but they're also made by the company who's subs beat out anything else.

Btw, you'll be hard pressed to find any negative comments on the Kodas.
