Default You guys think Honda motor's/tranny's and swaps are expensive...you have no idea!

Holy crap when I had my 94 LS I was contemplationg (like every kid between the ages of 18 and 24 does) doing either a B18C1 or C5 swap but just couldnt stomach spending $3500-$5500 on a motor, tranny, axles ecu etc swap

i was browsing through a site today looking at Subaru motors, specifically for the STi engine and tranny's. An STi 6spd transmission is going for $6795 and the engine is going for $8995

and those are even without axles or the ecu

honda swaps are becoming a bargain!!!

Hehehe

Go look on Ebay motors for Porsche engines and stuff, you'll be amazed at the prices!! There's some really expensive stuff.

But I agree, for the performance you get, Honda engines are somewhat of a good bargain!

you already get tubro stuff with sti engine, we still have to buy all that **** seperately :-)

just all the factory turbo stuff shouldnt make it that expensive i mean you can 4G63's for $2k and under and 3SGTE's can be had for $2k and under

STi swap 300hp/$12k = $40/hp

B18C5 200hp/$5k = $25/hp

15hp/$899 = $60/hp (it does have a 42" cut though!)

those are brand new prices tho. u have to look and shop around.
u can buy a good used JDM 2.0L STi V7 engine for half that (includes everything)and the tranny for a little more and includes everything.
some subaru dealers are offering the USDM STi 2.5L shortblock for $1400. ur heads, tranny, ECU wil bolt on.

end of this year and begginning of next, prices will drop alot more too

supply and demand has somthing to do with it tho, sti recentially came out in the states and i wouldn't be surprised. now even it was out b4 in japan that car was never here which is why its going to have a huge price tag, and i say lets remember rally designed cars were ment to be able to handle alot more abuse

i wonder what kind of an improvement a 2.5 shortblock would make?

isnt the shortblock itself capable of holding a whole ton more power than the EJ20 just based on its design?

which sucks because (from what i hear) the STi 6spd drivetrain can take tons of abuse whereas the WRX 5spd drivetrain when you start beating on it the thing just breaks on ya
