i pulling my motor out from the bottom. is there any thing i mite need.. i have a roller( like a wagon but smaller) with a truck tire on top for the motor to fall on? the car is on 2 jack stands all the motor mount blots are loosened up . any tips

 

um get an engine hoist.

dont DROP the motor.

 

We've dropped all but two motors from the bottom use a old blanket at the bottom that way you don't scratch up the oil pan. THe bottom has always been easier for in and out honestly. IM me if you want any details more than that. There was just a topic in this forum about it as well. Enjoy!

 

how hard is it to pull a motor from the top??can i pull just the motor and leave the tranny in the car....

If you don't want to pull them together, then drop the tranny first, then pull the longblock out. I don't see how you're going to get the tranny seperated fromt he block without undoing the three mounts, and if you've done that, you might as well just drop the tranny. I would rather just pull the wholething as a unit, but that's just me.

its honestly easier to just pull both.

 

if you really wanna have fun, pull the longblock out from the top without a cherry picker ... my friends and i did it, one person on each mount... dont suggest it, but its possible

These motors are meant to be dropped from the bottom....

Tips ? Yes, make sure your jack can raise the car high enough to pull the engine out. And have about 4-6 2x4's on hand... you'll find a use for them sooner or later...

You should remove your tow hooks to give some more clearance out the corner.

they are installed from the bottom from the factory. dosent mean thats the best way.

and i said DROP, because wm5 said "use tires for the motor to fall on"

remove from top, bottom, dosent really matter. but you should ALWAYS secure the engine to something like a hoist before you lower it to the ground.

the drop is droped, now i need to jack the car up .. but whats the best way!

 

use yr jack.. and put a book between it.. and jack it up one side at a time. dont be alarmed if yr rear wheel goes up with the car.. its normal

 

dropped the engine and tranny right threw the bottom. didnt use a blacket or anthing to proctect the engine, but it was fine. no engine hoist used; we just lifted the car over the engine by hand.

 

first take off the wheels, then lower the car all the way down just barely on a jack so the frame is a couple inches off the ground

unbolt everything and it won't fall, have someone hold the motor up and then jack the car back up, slide the motor out and you're done

i swapped in my b18, pulled out old D15 through the top, installed new motor through the bottom, attached the cable from the hoist and kept it upright on the ton car jack... went in easy as all hell

 

I've done 3 swaps by dropping car on the ground, unbolting motor , lifting car back up and sliding motor out . The hardest part is getting the new motor aligned with the mounts on the chassis. goodluck.
