I need some zc info.
Does the ZC engine come in the US 88-89 integra?? I know thats a DOHC but not sure if its the ZC or not. Or is it only from japan? Also is the ZC a direct swap into a EF hatch? Or will I need a mounting kit? I dont know much about the ZC so any info will help, thanks.
Its a ZC but they do not interchange between integras and civics. The engine mounts are in totally different areas. No you cannot make it work. If you want a ZC then buy one from nipponmotors or elsewhere. They had them in civics in Japan but not in the US.
ZC is a Direct bolt in for a 88-91 civic/cr-x. No new/different mount required.
86-89 Teg has a D16A1. Some parts are the same but motor mounts are way of dont waste your time to make it work.Alot of the parts from a 86-89 are interchangeable to the ZC or D16A6.

-- Sorta. The US has its own version of the 1.6L DOHC ZC engine. It's found in all of the US 86-89 integra's dubbed the 'D16A1'. There's actually 2 versions of this engine, the 86-87 model (lower compression + brown 4-bolt valve cover) & 88-89 model (higher compression + black 4-bolt valve cover). It's designed for the 86-89 integra chassis (duh) & the 84-87 civic/crx chassis; but it will NOT bolt into any EF civic/crx chassis because of the way the block is casted/formed. Now, the JDM EF DOHC ZC engine is a bit different (has minor cosmetic differences, mainly a black 8-bolt valve cover); the block casting is specifically designed for the EF chassis and is only available in Japan (you won't find this engine in any US oem honda vehicles). It may look different externally but internally its exactly the same as a US 88-89 D16A1 (black valvecover) engine; same compression, hp, & torque, the only big difference is the transmission/gear ratios..and the tranny is another story, but you're not asking about it so I won't tell. So, if you pick up a JDM EF DOHC ZC engine or 89+ ZC engine or longblock, you can reuse your existing SOHC tranny + shift linkage + axles on it and everything will bolt in perfectly. As for wiring, if you own an Si model, you can totally reuse your existing SOHC engine harness on the DOHC engine....that's about it, hope you're not confoosed
Also is the ZC a direct swap into a EF hatch?
-- YES it is a direct swap, IF, you use the correct ZC engine. In your case the JDM 89+ DOHC engine (8-bolt valve cover) would be the one to use. It will bolt right into your engine bay reusing your existing SOHC engine mounts + tranny.

Katman
I never knew the differences in the valve covers 4 vs 8 bolts. I just looked at the engine stamp but that is some good info if anyone needed to get a valve cover and was unsure if they were getting the right one
