Question about Test Pipe vs. Carsound Cat...
I was just wondering what the advantages and disadvantages were to both... Also, someone told me that a test pipe will get you 12whp more than a cat, is that true, I dunno if I believe it...
testpipe- no way you can pass emissions with it, pollutes air, makes exhaust a bit louder. Free-er flowing than Hi-Flo Cat. I doubt you can gain 12whp with just a test pipe, well not on a stock setup.
cat- free flowing than stock cat. Smog legal. More expensive than testpipe i think

Plus with a PY car... you will have a nice brown stain on the right rear bumber skin.
I will be installing (I hope
) a Carsound this week and removing my CEL #67.Will
Dave (SMSP) and myself just did this test last week at the dyno. The car didn't sound any louder than the CarSound to me! You will have to deal with the 2nd O2 sensor to prevent throwing a CEL. Unfortunately, I didn't get a graph specifically with just the cat vs test-pipe, but I went from 181 to 187 whp. Don't remember the tq advantage. If you look at the link I've posted below, check out dyno graph #3. This is a pre- vs post- plot of the CarSound vs Test-pipe/PS belt removed. Hope that helps you out!

Chris' max was 190, he got 3WHP from the PS belt. When we went from tuned cat to test pipe we saw a 2 WHP gain. However no adjustments were made to the fuel curve for the test pipe.

I stuffed up my Carsound Cat 94006 with my Spec B's. I ended up having to get a test-pipe, because it stunk like rotten eggs with a stuffed up cat. The car was noticably stronger after the t-pipe.
What I meant is that it was clogging up the exhaust flow. It was holding us back. Then it just went bad on us and stunk up the whole car, and shop. So we went with the t-pipe, and the smell is gone, and it put up noticably more power...I think when we switched over it was 3-5whp more, I can't remember exactly.
