how much does it usually cost to replace pistons and rings?

oem, my friend said that if you need to replace them you need to basically take apart the whole motor.

my fault, im not being clear enough. Here's the situation.

my friend has a 89 civic with 2nd gen b16 motor swapped. He's not getting much power out of it. ie: 116 lbs max power 94 lbs of torque. I'm thinking of buying this car, but he said I would need to replace the pistons and rings to get max power of 140. I found some itr pistons in the classifieds, so I'm just wondering how much would labor be if I were to replace the pistons and rings?

Do a compression check first to determine the problem.

it read...190 across.

he said on the dyno, he loses power at 4-5k. but comes back after 5

If you do it right, you'll need to hone the cylinders or resleave it.

It costs a grip.
