'90 accord ex, hunting idle problem again
well on my girls ex accord, it had a hunting idle problem. Was recommended that is was the fast idle valve so i changed for a new one.
Problem still exits. I am really hoping its not the IAC valve because that is alot of dough and I wouldn't want to buy it used. Also a hissing noise is coming from the fuel pressure regulator area. I think there may be a vacumn leak but i am not sure where it is coming from.
Anyone have any ideas?
TIA

hmm... if there is a hissing from the fule pressure regulator, id say fix that vac hose it could be your problem. ive seen it happen..... i think on the early 90 hondas there are alot of vac hoses, alot of them control the carb and fuel send, idle and all that good stuff. fix the hiss sounds like it could be your prob

After that, many people have had good luck cleaning out their IAC valves with throttlebody cleaner.
Worse case scenario, buy a new intake manifold from a junk yard....they're a lot cheaper than buying a new IAC, and I'm sure the IAC would be just as good, make sure you clean it all up before installation.

Like he said, cleaning the IAC valve can fix the surging idle problem. It did for me.
Take it off the plenum, and you'll see a small metal screen. Mine was clogged with carbon buildup. I used a combination of compressed air and a q-tip dipped in rubbing alcohol, plus more compressed air to clean it up.

it is the fast idle solnoid take off the two screws on top of it and turn the plastic peice inside tight as it will go .then your problem is gone trust me

i have a 90 ex, it doesn't properly idle because of my throttle position sensor(tps)
i was told that on 90-91 the tps was part of the intake manifold and the whole manifold would need replaced, and the 92-93 had a seperate tps that sold for about 90 bucks from honda

That sounds like garbage to me. You can replace the whole throttle body at the worst it seems, not the whole intake manifold. I'd bet you could pull off a TPS sensor from a junkyard for cheaper as well.

if you can find a honda tps, you CAN replace the f22a tps without buying a whole new throttle body.
we had to use a ziz wheel to get the TPS off of a customers f22a that we were swapping out for an h22a - the h22a tps was busted and we needed to get the car running, but it it works perfectly.
