insurance illegal??
is it illegal to insure a car to a state you dont live in?
these guys i know, say they can insure my car in north carolina for $112.00 a month for a 03' s2000...they said ill get NC plates and registration too
but we live in new york city and here they quoted me for $6,000.00 a year!
i kow about 6-7 people who have NC plates that live here by me.
is this common to do and is it illegal???

yes its illegal...i'm actually not sure how you can get around it...if you dont have a NC residence how the hell are they gonna prove you live in NC?
u go get a box at like mailbox's etc.......have a bill sent there and then have mailbox's etc. forward it to your real address, then use that bill to prove you live in Cali. I think that is what most people do as far as I know. My parents own land in a county that doesn't need emis. so I just registered my car under that address.
well heres the thing... i know the guy who owns this ins co. so if i have to put a claim in, i wont be asked any questions.
and the guys i know who have the NC plates have P.O. boxes in NC and have the mail forwarded here to nyc.
im still going to look into it more though. i guess theres a loophole for everything.
