Longer gear ration = more top speed
Shorter = Quicker acceleration

Mista Bone ran like a 14.8 with his D15B7 and bolt ons, and I believe he was using a hyrbid S20 tranny.

With that kind of setup, you should be seeing mid to low 15's

big difference.

Put it this way....people use the CX's 3rd gear in a Si/Ex casing for the 4th gear

Is putting a srr 4.9 final in a dx tranny just as good as having a ex/si tranny?

Shorter gears = quicker acceleration. I am trying to decide what to do transmission-wise for my car. Well I did some calculations for my mini-me and heres what I got:

Stock DX Tranny (@7200 RPM)
1st to 2nd Shift: 37 MPH
2nd to 3rd Shift: 68 MPH
3rd to 4th Shift: 102 MPH
4th to 5th Shift: 132 MPH

Stock EX Tranny (@7200 RPM)
1st to 2nd Shift: 35 MPH
2nd to 3rd Shift: 60 MPH
3rd to 4th Shift: 91 MPH
4th to 5th Shift: 126 MPH

DX Tranny w/ SRR 4.7 (@7200 RPM)
1st to 2nd Shift: 32 MPH
2nd to 3rd Shift: 59 MPH
3rd to 4th Shift: 88 MPH
4th to 5th Shift: 114 MPH

DX Tranny w/ SRR 4.9 (@7200 RPM)
1st to 2nd Shift: 31 MPH
2nd to 3rd Shift: 56 MPH
3rd to 4th Shift: 85 MPH
4th to 5th Shift: 109 MPH

Done using this link here: http://www.f-body.org/gears/

As you can see, the 4.7 is almost identical to the EX transmission...the 4.9 just a bit better. With an EX tranny being around $150-$200 and the SRR 4.7 Final Drive being $500 + labor to take the tranny apart...PLUS with the EX transmission you don't drop out of the powerband between 1st and 2nd...I'd say go with the EX transmission...
