Default Probe Rods

Does anyone have any experience with Probe Racing Rods?

I have Eagle's in my motor now, but I am building something new, and was gonna try the Probe's out.

All I have really heard is they are lighter than Eagle, and don't use ARP bolts. I like the quality of the Eagles for the price, but if I can get something lighter, just as strong, and cheaper, I will would like to try them out.

Please post your comments

A lot of the Ford guys I know put them in their 302s and 351s and swear by them, but I don't know anyone using them in an import engine.

I just put a shortblock together with Probe rods. The rod bolts are a full millimeter thicker than the Eagle rod bolts. I went with the Probe's for this reason. Wanna buy my Eagle's? J/K
The quality of the machine work on the rods is nice, but the proof is in the pudding,as they say, so I will know more when the engine is running. If a rod bearing spins or a rod bolt breaks, I guess that the Probe's are not so good. If the rods hold up, then they are the best thing since sliced bread.

I know you are probably looking for first hand experience, but I have heard of quite a few people running them and have never heard of any breaking.

Probe products are pretty good..I have a customers H22A lude with probe rods and my own B18C1 runs probe flat top pistons and we both have had great luck (luck might be the word) and I have put my engine thru some hardcore abuse..I recommened them.

There's still a lot of uncovered ground on the Probe Ultralite's.

Like you, I also wanted a larger rod bolt than the 5/16" (8mm) rod bolts on the ESP's. And, at an estimated 15% lighter than the ESP's, that puts them in the mid- to high- 400g mass, roughly 50g's lighter than the ESP's and ~75g's lighter than a set of OEM ITR rods.

I've been looking into getting a set of 5.429" length rods for a B18C crank. But, only IB lists a B18C length rod. I PM'd Rod of IB about the rods, but I still haven't gotten a response. The other place, Import Performance Parts, still only lists a 5.394" length rod. I'm just gonna call Probe Ind. and see what kind of information they have available.

He checks in there at least once a day.

Is there anything special about the IB Probe's?

I was told the Probes didnt have ARP bolts, but it says they do. The 8740. Are they strong as the ARP 2000?

I talked to jeff, and his price was a bit higher than Flatlander Racing.

Who else offers Probe for a good price?
