Default Trunk mounted batteries?Do they require a external cutoff switch to pass tech inspection at the trac

I have my battery mounted in the trunk of my 89Si.I did it with a complete sealed kit from one of those v8 companies.its got a nice box for it,nice gauge wire, fuse cutoff..etc..etc.But i heard rumor's that i wont be able to run at the track unless i had a cutoff switch put on the rear of the car?How true is that?

if u are in auto-X u are required to have a way to cut the car electric from the outside...
its a safety rule...
there should be a handle (like biky cable brake) that will open a circuit and cut the cars electric

It's true at one of the three tracks I frequent. Most don't care.

It has to cut off the alternator signal too if you want it to be 'legal'. Mine doesn't do that, so basically it is there just to pass tech. If they really got picky I'd remove the alt belt.

much easier to install a switch in the alternator field wire so you can turn the alternator off while going through tech.

In all seriousness though to make it perfectly safe and legal you need a more expensive switch the cuts battery and alternator power. I don't know how similar the rules are from one sanctioning body to another but you can download the nhra rule book from thier site in pdf format.

so your into drag racing, i dont know at what times u need a cut off switch if your talking about drag racing, but pretty much all the 11 sec or faster cars over here have that battery cut switch. just go ask the guys in the tech office if u need one and how fast u can go before u need one.
