I kind of have an idea but are they necessary? http://moroso.com/catalog/cate...42225
the reason this switch is required is in case of a crash, the entire car can be shut off by the switch from the rear by the track resque team in case the driver is knocked out and the car is still running, which can be dangerous if gas and oil are spilling from the wreck. hope that explains it for ya.

If it is required for those speeds/times... Why? emergency purpose or? What if I don't relocate the battery, do I still need it even if I run those times/speeds?

HHRA states that it is required in all vechicle running faster than 9.99 or in any vechicle with a battery mounted in a non-factory location. Like previously stated, it is for safety reasons. If you don't relocate your battery, you will need it if you run faster than 9.99.
