Default Need help- Why is my Engine blowing white smoke?

Well first of all its a 94 Ls motor in my hatch. Well today while driving for about 20 minutes, white smoke all of a sudden starts billowing out of my exhaust, now to the point, the engine is not and has not been overheating at all. It idles good starts up fine and everything. while idleing it really doesnt blow smoke until i rev it up. i checked the oil to make sure their was plenty and their is, i've always been told if the oil is milky looking or smells like antifreeze then more than likely its a blown head gasket, but the oil looks like neither, it looks normal. Plz guys i need some help on maybe what it might be and some ways to test and check to see if thats it. I just wanted to see if it might be something i can test somewhat easily before i take the head off to see if its the head gasket, thanks guys.

its simple

then try a leak down test
im taking mine to a shop for a leak down tomorrow

White smoke is deffinately burning coolant. Do a compression/leak down test and take a look at your numbers. If one or more are unreasonably low, then bam, your problem will most likely be shot rings. If not, then check your headgasket. Your oil wont be very milky unless you have a fairly large leak which it doesn't seem like you have. But in the mean time, keep an eye on your oil and coolant levels to make sure everything is ok until you get the problem taken care of .

No problemo amigo. For the compression tester...check your local parts store (i.c Kragen, PepBoys, etc.) if they don't have any I guess you could stop by a shop and have them do it for you really quick. It shouldn't take very long for a compression test, I would say 20-30 mins MAX. Good luck man!

I had the same problem last week!!! if that does not fix your problem... check your spark plug wires to see if oil is in there and if it is change your valve cover and sparkplug gaskets... $23 bucks out the door from honda. also doesthe white smoke burn off? i thought i had a blown headgasket....

is your water///antifreeze burning? if your car isnt over heating burning water///antifreeze then its prolly not a head gasket cause head gasket will make your car overheat all the time.....So i've heard...

it could be a cracked head/wall or a blown headgasket. go to google and look up "Steel Seal". **** works really well. fixes blow headgaskets and cracked/warped heads.

While checking the compression we bumped the first 2 cylinders up to 150 and held it their to see if they'd leak back down, and they didnt. We didnt get to check the other 2 because my friends son broke our gauge. The spark plugs were fouled, I had to put the plugs back in their so i could make it to work and the car ran fine and didnt smoke until i get on it, but if i drive the car normally its fine, but when i get on it for a few seconds it starts to smoke, i've noticed to the exhuast fumes are smelling like gas, so its running rich right? but i dont know why. Any more adivce guys? thanks

i have Mugen ECU fitted to my DC2, when I change from 2nd gear to 3rd at about 8500rpm lots of white smoke came out, but it won't happen to 3rd to 4th gear. Can somebody tell me what happen?? I try my OEM ECU, no white smoke, so is it the ECU or my car?? thanks

Everyone says if your blowing white smoke to do a leakdown test. Obviously if you have a blown head gasket, it will leak air. Well what if it doesnt leak air in or out and yet your still blowing white smoke? Leakdown tests were solid. At 50psi, it held 49psi. I went one step further and did a coolant system pressure test. At 30psi, double the factory spec, no pressure loss after 5 minutes or leaking coolant! I tapped a cotton swab to a screwdriver and swabbed the top of the pistons and they were all dry! Yet I still blow out alot of white smoke.

Leakdown results: <2%, every cyl
Compression: 190psi, every cyl
Coolant Pressure test: 30psi, no pressure loss, no coolant in cyl
