2000 Civic SI oil consumption

Do you have synthetic oil? That's what my problem was. I switched from regular oil to full synthetic at about 20k miles and it caused my valve stem seals in my 99 Si to start leaking.
Next time you have your head opened up for valve springs, cams, whatever, replace your valve stem seals. It's a $50, $60 fix.

Losing oil is normal? Yeah, right! Tell me where that quart goes every 2000 miles.

This is from my experience....
W/ honda's high-revving VTEC engines, it will naturally lose some oil, especially when driven hard. I've seen it on civic si's (b16), as well as on preludes (H22), which were all new.
It IS normal, and a quart between oil changes is NOT bad, considering you bring it into VTEC often.
And on the other guy's comment that switching to synthetic caused his valve stem seals to leak:
It was not the seals that started leaking, it was the change in viscuosity of the oil. In old VW Beetles, switching to synthetic causes them leak MUCH more, since they naturally leak easily.
It's the fact that the oil becomes "thinner", so that it can flow through much smaller openings easier. That is why you lose a good bit of oil in an engine runnig synthetic oil.

wow, u have a lot of learning to do it seems..i thought this was basic stuff. your engine isn't a PERFECT seal after so many miles, and if he has a decent amount, especially with hard driving.....there u go

Just about everyone that I talk to with a gsr says they burn about a quart between 3000 mile changes using mobil 1 synthetic. I'm going to pull the ol' switcharoo and try castrol syntec for a change, I heard it doesn't burn.
