Default Where is the Respect?

Folks, maybe I am way out of line here, and if I am I apologize in advance. This isn't about any particular thread really, but just an overall trend I have noticed lately here in the ITR forum.

The way veterans on this board have been jumping all over people (mostly new people) who ask simple questions makes me a little sick. We have a huge problem with group-think here on H-T and it keeps getting worse - i.e., use autozone rotors because all track guys do, don't clean your car (or wheels) because it is cool not to, if you own an ITR you should not care about style or appearance. If anybody comes along and disagrees with the shared H-T brain they are ridiculed and laughed at. We have been pretty harsh to a great many people lately. Why?

I think we could be a bit more polite to people on the board and have a bit more respect for views that are different than those currently held by the H-T majority.

Anyway, just saying what is on my mind.

Don`t worry, the mods are cracking down. Just look at my lack of avatar and points

It's a bandwagon.

Maybe the next one will be to flame the people who ridicule n00bs.

That would be a better bandwagon to have than the "search" one. People are putting in more effort in thinking of new ways to tell noobs to search than to answer their questions. I guess it makes them feel good to ridicule people over the internet..

First and foremost I must apologize if I came across harsh in the "cross-drilled rotors" thread. I was one of the persons who said to get Autozone rotors. ( https://honda-tech.com/zerothread?id=607133 )

My intention was to help the person not waste money. Because our cars are so old, there are not too many new "things." We know that there are about 3-5 brands of headers that make power, 2-3 brands of brake pads, 2-3 types of intakes, etc. etc.... my point being is that there is not much else to say that cannot be found in a "search."

But, there is no reason to be rude. And I agree with you that being rude is not acceptable and if I was rude, I definitely want to apologize.

I dont come around here too much anymore but I agree 110%. If you dont have anything helpful to say, then dont say anything at all or just point them in the right direction. No need to belittle or ridicule someone and act like you are better than they are. Most of us are guilty(including myself) of being like WTF?? with a blatantly retarded n00b, but for the most part I think people are looking for an honest answer, and far too many times people are ganged up on by some of our elitest Hype R owners.

Whenever i come into this forum I have to put my flamesuit on and add the statement in the beginning of my post " I already tried to search"... You're right about the bandwagon...I don't really see it changing anytime soon though. Just feel bad for the newbiez who come in with their first post and get flamed by twenty five people who have links to "ht search".

Sometimes I feel as if some of the members here aren't here to learn, or help. So I just try to ignore them. There are specific people on this board that I will not name that make us all look bad.

It seems like everyone takes their anger onto this board. People that have a bad day for whatever reason come on here and talk **** because they don't have to answer to anyone.

I guarantee that any of the people that talk **** on here wouldn't do **** in real life. So I guess we'll never get rid of these wannabe e-thugs, but that's life I guess. I'm glad you posted this, because it gives us all a chance to realize that belittling other people just makes you look like an ***.

I see it from both angles...there are new people who ask real good legitimate questions who get flamed anyways. THAT isn't right! (I saw the brake rotor one by the way, and I thought the comment made by a certain someone who will remain unnamed, was totally uncalled for) the guy had a real good question....as amatter of fact, I was about to ask the same thing.

However, having said that, you also get the more common n00b who comes here, asks a really obvious question, or question that had been addressed no less than two billion times, and is taking up huge amounts of archive bandwidth...and they demand an answer right away. I personally can't stand this, and I always suggest using search. Some people do, some people don't and say they did...in which case I will post the links then proceed to flame them for being stupid and lying ...just my 2 yen...

Flux, i completely agree with you. I have gotten flames from certain people commenting on my "english". People don't realize that many of aren't native english speakers. I also get flames with the words "dumb, stupid, idiot" because i don't agree with the majority of the crowd.

sometimes it's hard to distingush between good legitimate questions and questions that have been addressed 10 billion times. Because of this, I think the "noobs" should be given the benefit of the doubt and should be addressed in a polite and learning way. After all, we were all once "noobs.." i don't know about you guys, but sometimes i look at questions i posted 3 years ago and feel absolutely stupid for posting it..

This is a big reason why I hardly ever come to h-t anymore. I still check the roadrace forum every couple of days but only come to the Type R forum if I'm really bored. I really have a hard time finding anything new (since no one actually helps eachother out) or worth while reading. I feel like I'm in the middle of a college frat or something.

edit about noobs: we were all noobs once. Some of us were able to change for the better with a little direction. That's hardly being offered on h-t anymore. Luckily I've found some other sites that still enjoy helping people change their noob ways.

ok, since whorehey can't take a obvious joke I'll reply more seriously.

Yes, I agree mostly.

As for "do a search" I do support that type of reply for questions that have been answered numerous times before. Why should one waste more storage space on HT's servers with extremely redundent posts. Not to mention "pics of blah blah needed" posts where you can EASILY find more than one thread with the info by searching.

There really is no excuse for someone not to do a search, sorry.

As for people being ********.. well I have been.. but that has never changed. I started on HT as an ******* so I don't think I've been any different in the past few years.

Personally I don't visit HT much anymore becuase there are very few interesting/worthwhile threads IMO.

Plus work has been busy. I'm sure if I get bored enough.....

George, But who wants to be known as a "RAT"...
"Something that would be a huge help is using the REPORT to Moderator button whenever a thread goes astray."

I try to help the noobies when possible, but when they ask something that was just posted... [FIRE]

I use the search all the time, what sucks is when your looking for pics and you find a thread in the search that looks like its exactly what you need, but its 2 years old and the pics are long since gone.

I hear ya though Flux. People can be pretty **** on here sometimes.

lol for how long? like 45 seconds at most during work hours and off and on when I'm home? (commercial on TV right now, and double-a was IMing me so I refreshed).

I certainly don't hit f5 for hours @ work anymore. HT lost my interest. I usually visit here as an afterthought after hitting the ITRCA forums.

Bah, you got banned from nascarforums.com and cameback here w/ your tail between you legs, Sucko.

Btw, in regard to the OG post, I think once you`ve seen the same question over 146314696926464124687 times, it just strikes a nerve and you go psycho.

May I had that the ITR forum is a very difficult forum to be in when you're a newbie. People here can get pretty damn rude. This use to be my favorite forum, but at one point it got really unbareably obnoxious. You couldn't say a single thing or post a single picture without some hater making rude comments or IMing with rude words...same goes for the GD forum as well. The only difference is that I'd like to think the moderators in the ITR forum are a bit more mature...GD forum moderators are complete ********...I had to actually put one on my IM ban list.
