Default very quick oil change question

this always seems to happen to me... i forgot to go out and buy new O-ring for the oil change. i put new one on last oil change 3000 miles ago. is it ok if i reuse same one or is it worth the 30 min drive again to go get a new one

depends if it's all warped and bent out of shape... if it looks okay, then yes, you can just flip it around and reuse it. Otherwise you should go get a new one.

I would just buy new ones. They don't cost that much and it's for peace of mind.

o ring? or crush washer?

the o ring is the rubber seal on the oil filter

the crush washer is what goes on the drain plug

Hmmm

Good point, O ring or crush washer...

If your doing a oil change correctly and using a new oil filter, it should have a brand new O ring on it.

You shouldn't have to change that every time. If it dosen't leak, it's doing it's job.

Flip it if it is good. I have reused them many times with no problems.

I've never had to change one of those on any of the cars I've ever owned. And I've never had one leak. I think you're worrying needlessly.

Acura gave me a handful for free too. Just ask for some as you buy a filter and usually they just throw a few on the counter. If you go in and ask for them alone they may charge you for them.

Me too, well at least on my Honda & Acuras I owned. I do replace it like maybe once a year just for the heck of it, but I noticed it never leaked and I reused some of them up to 5, 6 times w/ no problems.

I've never replaced my crush washer on my car and I've had it for almost 5 years. I got it with 80K on it and now it has almost 150K. It has never leaked. I never buy Honda filters so I never end up with the washer.
