Default crazy thermostat

I just installed a new radiator in my teg but opted not to replace the thermostat since the bolts that were holding it were in a tight spot. Anyway, the install went without a hitch and i even idled it for a good 10 or 20 minutes. The temp gauge seemed to come up to the normal level and i thought everything was fine.

Today, however, I took it out for a half-hour drive on the freeway and noticed something very strange. The temp dial would fluctuate from the normal level to completely cold. It seemed to be somewhat dependent on the environment since when i drove it later tonight it never even rose to the normal level until i was back on city streets and idling at red lights and what not.

What could be the problem? It doesn't seem to be overheating and in fact, the engine seems to be a little cooler now. Now jokingly, someone suggested maybe it was just really cold, but i doubt this is the case. BTW, this is for a 90 LS.

Either the thermostat is broken..or your radiator is really doing an bomb *** job. If you need a new thermostat..i got a spoon one for sale. 50 bucks shipped and its yours.

What about completely removing the thermostat? I have some friends that remove theirs out for the summer time.. I was thinking about doing the same to mine.
Should i do it or not?

Your car will dump fuel because its too cold. It will think its in warm up mode, just like when you first start the car up.

I currently have the same problem, but I have a boosted GSR with fluidyne full length radiator, spoon thermostat and mugen thermoswitch (temp switch).

Im gonna switch out the mugen thermo with a stock to see if that fixes it. If not ill change the thermostat and thermoswitch to stock.

My main concern is my temp also fluctuates pretty rapidly, and thus it may cause either my head/block to warp.
