D series block
The other day i was driving back to school and i blew my 90 model D16a6 motor. Everything thing is ok except for the block and i was told that i could take the crank and piston out of my si motor and put it in the block of a hf. They said that the si and hf are the same block just that the si has a shorter stroke that gives it more dicplacment. If anyone knows anything about this please let me know. thanx a lot.
the si motor has a longer stroke..thats what makes it a 1.6. And your going to have to find a 1.6 block because the main bearing journals are smaller on all the 1.5 liter d-series blocks.. I just tried to put the a6 crank into a d15b2 and the journals are way to small in that block but maybe the d15b6 that the HF has, has the same journals as the a6 block..im not certain on that..
Dont bother doing a rebuild on a d series unless you are going to build the motor. I would jsut get another d16a6 for like 100 dollars from a fellow HTer. Or do a better swap. It will be MUCH cheaper then rebuiling the motor.
Just my lousy .02

Just get any D you want. If your an all motor kinda guy, get a Y8. If your car is just a beater to get you to work find a DX/STD/Si block or motor. If you like turbo power than anything will work ( A6/Z6/Y8 ).
replace the motor is cheaper than rebuilding a D.
